Customer Questions & Answers

Is it ok to paint it on a ceiling? (3 questions)

Q1: I've never painted before... and while I was searching for this Behr Paint, I saw some of them were labeled for "ceiling." Do we use different type of paint for walls and ceilings? Q2: I am looking for a sample of Behr Premium Plus Ultra Pure White #1050. I couldn't find it on the Home Depot website... Do they have them in the store? Q3: I found a 10 year old(probably older) Behr #1050 paint that the previous home owner had left... It's not dried but looks kind of yellowish and smells like poison. I shouldn't use this, right...? Thank you...
Asked by: Mimi
Q1 - Ceiling white is generally a flat paint and will give the feeling of more warmth in the room...,.. It's a good thing. Q2 - I don't believe HD has "Samples". The high end paint stores have 4(?) ounce samples but the price of their paints make them VERY expensive. Get the color swatch/cards and do the best you can. It'll be fine. Q3 - Spread some on some cardboard every few days until it's all gone and dried up . That's the only safe way of disposing it. I wouldn't think of using paint that's questionable ~ it's too much work to worry about the price of the paint.

Do you have to add tint or can you use it straight from the can (unsure about solids content)?

Asked by: abc
This paint can be used straight out of the can or tinted. My wife and I chose to go with a light, antique white color by the name of "Knit Cotton".

I need to paint a wall white that's already been pre painted dark brown do i need a first coat of primer?

The wall has designs colored in dark brown. I know this product has primer in in but i need to know if it's recommended to use a bucket of primer by it self first or can i achieve same result by using this product by it self?
Asked by: Elgin
It would cover your brown but not in one coat. I was covering red but used a gallon of soft yellow I had sitting around as a base coat. It worked great. I still put 2 coats of white over it though. But that's just me. I'll be repainting over the brown in my bedroom and will use the same yellow as a base then put the Behr white over it. I'll do my standard two coats over it too.

This was the second 5 gal. pail of this product I had purchased, several months apart. Painting walls and ceiling with this product. First pail worked beautifully. Good coverage, easy to use and virtually no spatter. The second pail (just recently purchased) spatters like crazy, like you would not believe. I made the mistake to think it would perform like the first pail. What a mess to clean up. Either a formula change or a bad batch. Beware.

What have you done to your paint? It used to be 2 coats with fresh texture. Not anymore !!! 4 coats for a Premium self priming paint is ridiculous! I am not a rookie, so this is definitely a product issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from favorite paint This and all other BEHR paints are my go to paint. I've never found another one that covers so well and finishes as I would expect a paint to. I have gotten an occasional gallon of other brands only because my store is not local. I always find myself comparing and finding the other brands definitely not to the quality BEHR paints are. I think it was the coverage that got me first. Excellant. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product We have always had excellent results with the Behr paints. Therefore, when we decided to repaint the walls in the living room in our condo, we went with Behr. The results were excellent. One coat covered without any problem. The walls were painted using Behr paint 5 years ago, they still looked good, but we were looking to change color. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paint I use BEHR all of the time. There have been a couple of instances, for convenience or price; that I have used other brands. I always regret it immediately. The other paints just run and are watery. One of my most recent projects was painting my sons room a dark gray/blue. It was originally a light beige. It took one coat and one can of paint for a 12x15 room. Love this paint.

I had put 6 coats of regular ceiling paint on a ceiling in one room of my house! Ridiculous! I had followed all instructions and recommendations regarding temperature, humidity, drying time and paint techniques but was having a horrible time with blotchiness. It took a couple more coats of this on top of what I had done to get an even finish, but it would have saved SO much time if I had started with this to begin with. I did another room and this paint worked just as well over the 16 year old paint as it did over the 6 coats of the other formula. I knew my new(er) home needed some work but it seemed the other formula was creating even more work and soaking up my funds as well. This paint is a clean white and also leaves a nice sheen - not shiny, but not chalky. I have a lot more sqft to cover and will stick with this to save time and money and continue with the nice finish it provides.

I was disappointed in the coverage of the paint and primer in one on this occasion. The coverage was poor - the paint was much more watery than the other paints I have purchased from Behr. I recommend most Behr paints, but I don't recommend this particular one.

I love Behr paint because there is so little spatter and because it cover very well. It doesn't drip off of my roller either. I may stick with one gallon cans because after the five gallon sat for two day there was some separation of clear liquid on the surface of the pail that had to be mixed back in.
