Hi Anthony,
The house paint that is most commonly used in residential painting can be broken down into two general categories:
1) Oil-based or Alkyd paint
- These paints have a natural or synthetic oil base and they require mineral spirits or solvents for clean up.
2) Water-based (Latex)
- The term "Latex" is sometimes used to refer to water-based paints (there is no natural latex in the paint) and can be cleaned up with soap and water.
There are also some Hybrid Paints that use a combination of paint technologies, but these are less common.
Paint also has what is called a "binder". This is what forms the film after the paint had dried. Think of is as the "glue" that holds the paint film together and sticks the film to the surface. The type of binder determines many properties of the dried paint film such as durability, flexibility, water and stain resistance and adhesion. There are a number of examples- 100% Acrylic, Acrylic (not 100%), Vinyl Acrylic (PVA), Styrene Acrylic etc.
Behr Premium Plus Ultra is a 100% Acrylic, water-based (Latex), Paint and Primer in One. It has a very tight, durable film that protects against weather better than typical paint.

Hi gi812guitar,
Thank you very much for your inquiry. Both Premium Plus Exterior Satin and Premium Plus Exterior Flat will perform excellent on fiber cement siding. Also, both sheens are recommended for the exterior body of a house. As a rule of thumb, as the paint sheen goes up, so does the durability of the paint. So, Premium Plus Exterior Satin will give you the benefit of added durability against the exterior elements. However, both sheens have been designed for exceptional durability and come with a limited lifetime guarantee.
As far as which sheen would perform best, it really comes down to your preference. Many customers choose Premium Plus Exterior Flat because they prefer the look of a matte finish. Others who might choose Premium Plus Exterior Satin prefer a slightly shinier paint finish and are seeking a slightly more durable sheen. So, it really comes down to which look you prefer. For best results, we recommend you prime the fiber cement siding with Behr Premium Plus Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer No 436. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Garden decorations I have this paint in at least 25 colors in the 8 ounce sample size, I paint my garden decorations with it. Nothing seems to dull the paint. I live in Pennsylvania, hard winters, statues stay out all year. I have been using Behr for 7 years now and haven't had to repaint, the colors stay vibrant and my frogs and such look great. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Paint Product I purchased this paint after reading Consumer Reports and saw it's high rating, then comparing it to other name brand paints. We painted my wood fence and it is beautiful. It was in bad shape but now looks brand new. The paint covered very well and went on smoothly. I love the Satin grade for the slight sheen it has. We used the color Polar Bear, white, by Behr, for the fence and plan to use the same color on the eaves and trim of the house which we are preparing to paint. I am looking for a blue color for the house and will definitely use Behr, maybe the Premium Plus Ultra. I know my house will look wonderful! Thanks for a great product. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by House Looks Great Now! My house was due for a paint job, but choosing the satin and the color I did... with the great coverage makes me smile every time I look at the walls outside! Paint is always a great choice [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] February 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Exterior Paint! I used this product to paint the metal siding on a 1950's house. It went on easily, covered well, made the house look fantastic!! Would highly recommend as easy to apply, durable. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exterior I painted my house trim last year with Behr Exterior Premium Plus. It cover wonderfully and everyone commented on how nice my house looked. I had painted my house trim Cinnabark and highlighted the trim around the windows Dark Crimson. My garage was white and this year we painted it also. However, to try to save a few dollars, I used another brand. BIG mistake, it covered terrible. So I stopped using it and went and bought the Behr, which I should have done in the first place. The coverage this paint gives makes it really less expensive than buying the cheaper brands you have to use more of anyway. As you can see it gives the house a more warn and welcoming feeling, at least I think so September 18, 2015
