Customer Questions & Answers

Does it need two coats or just one?

Asked by: kimet
Hello and thank you for your question. It really depends on the current state of the surface you'll be painting, the existing color that's on it, and what color you'll be using. Two coats will typically yield the most even coverage for a great project. Hope this helps, and best of luck on your project!

can this paint have color added or can you only get it in ultra white?

Asked by: Anonymous
A color can be added, but why? This paint is a primer. I think Behr just relabeled their primer as a paint.

Can this paint be used on a concrete basement wall ?

Asked by: Bob
Hi Bob, Thanks for your question. For porous basement wall surfaces we recommend our BEHR PREMIUM Basement & Masonry Waterproofer. It is an advanced interior/exterior waterproofer designed for porous concrete and masonry surfaces. It uses NanoGuard® Technology to form an extremely strong adhesive barrier to stop water infiltration.

Newer cans seem to have a higher sheen?

I own dozens of apartments and have been painting and touching up acres of walls using Behr flat tinted to Cottage white. I have been able to touch up the paint after years and had perfect results. The last 2- 5 gallon pails bought within the last 6 months are a perfect color match but the sheen is greater so when viewed at an angle the touchups are obvious. This never happened before and I am extremely unhappy that it looks like I will no longer be able to touch up like I have in the past but every apartment will require an entire repaint to look good! Has the formula changed? Is Behr aware of any sheen difference in the flat paint they produce today over what thay made 2 years ago. This is going to have a mojor impact on my business. Thanks, -David T
Asked by: David
David, you probably have the answer already, but just in case.... No, I don't believe the sheen has changed.I recently was able to match several different 13-year-old paints with new paints with no problem. However, I learned that the real thing that you have to match is to make sure the base is the same. It is not enough just to ask for the same color and sheen i.e., flat, satin, semi, etc. And you also can't rely on the can colors, as they change. The base number will be on the front of the can typically either above the Big Behr logo or in the middle at the bottom. Just look at your old paint cans for this number and give this number with the color number. You simply can't guess on this one. I learned that, even though I used all flat, in different rooms with different colors, the base numbers were different. I've attached a photo of the number to look for. I have shopped and purchased a whole lot of paint over the years at Home Depot and none of the men helping me explained this to me. This year I was touching up paint and had the color number, can color and sheen (interior flat), but I was not getting matched. Very frustrating. But then, a woman at the paint service counter took the time to explain that I needed to match the base numbers. And voila. Perfect matches. No full wall repainting needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I painted 2 bdrm and a hallway and the house had not been painted for years but it was NOT a smokers house and many places bleed through and it took numerous sprays will kill to cover spots that wouldn't cover with this paint. I purchased it because it stated (1 coat)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I always paint was paint First time trying this particular level of paint. It was only .08 per gallon higher than my first choice. Now I'm glad that they were out of stock of the cheaper base!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint ever!!!!!!!!!!! I purchased this paint and it took almost 3 gallons to paint one 10x12 room! The paint was so thin it wouldn't stay on the roller or the cut brush!!!! If that wasn't enough, the handle on the paint can broke while I was pouring paint into the roller pan, and completely ruined my carpet because it splattered all over the place including up onto my ceiling fan when the bucket landed after the handle broke!!!!!!! I've got half a mind to suit Behr and Home Depot for damages!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product The paint went on and the first coat was promising. the second coat is what really let it shine(not literary). It's a bland white, but it looks good for a back room type paint(my room) I cant see this in a room that is inside a house, but I do see it in my room and it look fantastic. Couple this with a daylight led light and you are set. I'm very happy with my purchase and still have paint left over for anything I want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product We have always had excellent results with the Behr paints. Therefore, when we decided to repaint the walls in the living room in our condo, we went with Behr. The results were excellent. One coat covered without any problem. The walls were painted using Behr paint 5 years ago, they still looked good, but we were looking to change color. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paint I use BEHR all of the time. There have been a couple of instances, for convenience or price; that I have used other brands. I always regret it immediately. The other paints just run and are watery. One of my most recent projects was painting my sons room a dark gray/blue. It was originally a light beige. It took one coat and one can of paint for a 12x15 room. Love this paint.

Cleanup is a breeze. The colors are rich and true. Purchased on the recommendation of Consumer Reports, and it has lived up to its rating. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from never pay more I have been using Behr Premium Plus flat paint on every wall in the last two houses I have owned and updated. I can see no reason to pay more for paint. This paint goes on well, has good coverage, and cleans up easily. The breadth of color choices is more than you would ever need. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
