Dear John,
Thank you very much for your question. As stated in a previous answer to you, BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® Interior Paint is a low odor formula, but not completely odorless.
Thank you and good luck with your project!

Answer:
This Behr paint isn't completely odor-free compared to other paints, but it does have less odor than most.
If you really want to eliminate the odor in any paint you buy (including this one), simply add vanilla extract or a similar additive sold at your local paint store that can enhance and not give the paint a foul odor.

Color-matching old Behr custom colors

This question is from 1-gal. Medium Base Satin Enamel Zero VOC Interior Paint
Asked by
Mix_and_Match
Northern Utah
October 11, 2012
Twelve years ago, I painted the walls of my house with Behr Pure Premium Interior Satin Enamel paint, with quart-size formula (converted to 384ths of an ounce) of:
Ultra-Pure White: B lamp black 84, C yellow oxide 208, E thalo blue 12, F red oxide 16.
I'm trying to touch up some areas and want to get as close as possible. I was told you've changed to new colorants. I was told the tint load was too much for Ultra-Pure White and I need to also switch bases, to Medium. None of five computer matches of the old paint specified the original tints; they were (quarts, Pure Premium, Satin Enamel):
Medium Base (384ths): BL 60, CL 124, FL 8
Medium Base (384ths): BL 60, CL 135, RL 27
Medium Base (384ths): BL 14, CL 82, LL 253
Ultra-Pure White Base (384ths): CL 35, DL 1, LL 114
Ultra-Pure White Base (384ths): BL 4, CL 37, LL 93.
The first one, which at least had 3 of the original 4 type of tints, wasn't a close match at all. Trial-and-error so far has led to BL 57, CL 127, EL 7, FL 10, which is too dark, and BL 55, CL 125, EL 7, FL 11, which is also too dark. Can you recommend a way forward?

My ceilings are painted with one-quarter of the wall paint colorants (that is, per quart, twelve-year-old Ultra-Pure White satin enamel, B lamp black 21, C yellow oxide 52, E thalo blue 3, F red oxide 4). Once I get a match for the wall paint, will using a quarter of that for the ceiling match the current ceiling, or will the differences in bases cause a mismatch? If the latter, what would be the best way to use the wall match to help match the ceiling?

Hi Mix_and_Match,
There are a number of variables that will affect how visible or invisible a "touch-up will appear on the wall.
Color:
It is always best to use a small amount of paint from your original project if possible. Although usually minor, differences in color and sheen can occur. In your case, you completed your project over 12 years ago. Even if you had successfully stored your leftover paint for that amount of time, it may be likely that your walls have slight color variations due to UV exposure through windows, environmental exposure and contact with cleaning agents that may affect the color over the long term.
And yes, you are correct. Behr has introduced new, high strength, Low VOC colorants. The colors from the Behr Color System introduced in 2003 have been reformulated using the new colorants so that you are able to purchase the same color.
There may be other factors in play that also affecting the "touch up" match.
Sheen
In general, flatter sheens minimize touch-up areas and higher sheens are more difficult to touch-up flawlessly. Shiner sheens such as Satin and Semi-Gloss reflect light and so it is noticeable when one small area has more material (paint) than the rest of the wall- you can see the edge. Professional painters use a technique where they feather the edge of a touch up. Essentially, paint is applied to the middle of the repair or touch up area and using decreasing brush pressure, the edge is tapered so less paint overlaps onto the previous surface.
Surface Porosity
Next, if you are painting a patched area, you may need to spot prime or use a primer coat of paint and primer in one. Patching materials are more porous than drywall or previously coated surfaces and may require sealing otherwise the topcoat will soak in creating the perception of color and sheen differences..
Tools
Next, use the same tools and application method as you had used previously. Rollers leave an obviously different surface profile than brushes. For instance, if you previously rolled the paint on the wall with a roller, using a brush for the touch-up may build more material over the patched spot creating a visible edge, so you should touch up with a roller. You can minimize the edge by lightly feathering out the touch-up with the roller (as described above).
Depending on how large of an area you are trying to touch-up, the quickest way to a flawless surface is to roll a new coat of paint over the entire wall.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Paint I bought a quart of this for a very small bathroom and was very impressed with how smooth the paint was and with the coverage! April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best quality Best quality for the price. Behr paint has never let me down March 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of a Kind Like No Other My house was in need of painting throughout, I researched the different brands because I wanted something that would cover spots in one coat and go onto the wall smoothly. The paint and primer in one is a little more expensive than the other brands but it does a remarkable job covering spots and darker paint in one coat. I am in the process of painting the kitchen, bath and bedroom with Behr Paint & Primer in One. I won't be using any other brand, I'm even going to purchase some for the upstairs apartment. Give it a try you won't regret it. It's a nice product. February 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Walls look amazing! Our contractor told us to get the Satin Enamel finish to help cover some of the uneven finishes in the plaster on our walls... he was right! Two coats later and our living room is beautiful with the Satin Olivine color... smooth and rich color and we can't believe how the room has transformed with just some paint! Definitely recommend! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Behr paint I have to travel for almost an hour to the nearest Home Depot but it's worth it if only for the quality of the Behr paint. It is by far the best on the market. Sometimes, I only need to apply one coat because the coverage is so good. It dries very quickly also. I have tried other brands in a pinch and they don't measure up. April 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! We bought an older home that had to be painted from ceiling to walls, upstairs and in the basement. BEHR was easy to use, it coated well and clean up was simple. We could not have been happier with the qualities of this product. Now, we will be focused on the outside of our home and after reviewing several products we decided to use BEHR's Premium Elastomeric Masonry, Stucco & Brick. February 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product I was overly impressed with the outcome of my living room after using the satin enamel. The transformation was unbelievable. It doesn't even look like the same room. My room was dark but this brightened it up tremendously. I am excited to start on my den but haven't been able to choose what color I would like. February 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Durable Finish I use this paint in high traffic areas like hallways, and in damp areas like the bathroom. I've always been impressed with its durability and finish. It lasts for years, the colors stay true, and it handles being scrubbed. Will always be loyal to Behr! February 10, 2016
