Hello Arwen77,
Thanks for your interest in our colors. Here are some coordinating purple colors for Green Balsam (PPU11-15): Purple Potion (S100-5), Passion Fruit (M100-5), or Duchess Lilac (PPU16-13). Hope these help. You might consider trying out some 8 oz. samples of colors before committing to a full sized container. Well wishes for your project!

Dear Mike,
Thank you for your question. If the oil-based paint is a flat sheen, no primer would be required. However, many oil-based paints have more of a glossy sheen which could be more difficult to cover. There are two options for preparation that will allow BEHR PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® to adhere properly. You could scuff-sand the surface to remove the gloss from the substrate before painting. Or you could use PREMIUM PLUS® All-In-One Primer & Sealer #75 to cover the oil-based paint , allowing the new coat of paint to stick. Be sure to follow label instructions for these products to properly clean and prepare the surface for best results.
Hope this helps and best of luck with your project! Read Less

Answer:
Hi Mike,
While this Behr paint will cover most colors in one coat, dark colors may require a primer to block out the old color.
In addition the surface much have all sheen removed, by sanding or the use of a deglosser.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1047 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sooo Disappointed I have used Behr paints for many years in over 10 different apartments that I have rented. I wanted to paint over a medium purple in a small dining room. This project took me 1/2 a day ton two other occasions and it has never taken more than one gallon pain let alone almost two days. The dining area is small and has only one full wall the other walls have a single door, a double window pane and the entryy wall has two narrow columns. I showed the rep the photo of the current color and he recommended I do the the primer and paint in one. It took me the labor day weekend, a second trip for another gallon of paint because I had to go over it a third time, and still the trims and some areas show a grey like look to them because this paint refused to cover, took forever to dry and was way stronger odor then I am accustomed to. Had I just primed and then painted I would have been done in half the time nevermind the re$ources. Not at all what I thought it would be and I do not feel home depot delivers on its promise with this product. The tinting seem to be ok but instead of what I thought would be a deep coral, its more red :( September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Paint I had no idea what type of paint I needed to purchase, thank God there were people to assist. This paint came out great on the walls with the color I chose. Turns out that I didn't need the expensive stain blocking option since my walls were a flat white (according to my painter) regardless I still prefer this, for the extra cost. April 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great color I probably have the most boring bland house known to man as far as color and warmth. This would be because I have spent years trying to choose a color just for one room. I finally decided on a red. I wanted something that wouldn't be too dark but not too light either that would be too bold. The chili pepper was perfect! I actually used the Marquette because I had a darker blue color to paint over. It covered in one coat and one can did the biggest bedroom in my house. I highly recommend this paint and this color. I would have added more pictures for the rest of the room but that option is not available. happy painting! February 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Never again This color is darker than it looks, I was really surprised by how dark it was. I will never order paint online again. I knew this from the beginning, but tried it anyway I made it work with a very Light Accent Wall May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Paint color! Satin is easy to clean! This paint is easy to coat the entire room with. When dry, it was very easy to clean. Already painted the basement with this Satin paint (same color). Planning to do additional rooms........... August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No ONE coat coverage Bought this at our local Home Depot as the clerk recommended this product for one coat coverage. I am painting my granddaughters small 10 x 10 bedroom. The color was originally blue and she wanted yellow. We asked the clerk the best paint to get to cover. I am now going back to Home Depot to purchase another gallon. This paint is horrible. Will be applying the third coat tonight. I was reading the other reviews, not sure why people rated this so high. I know, I will never be buying this paint again. August 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by breat paint great coverage had an apartment get trashed and they had painted in very dark colors was very easy to cover with two coats of this paint August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Coverage Bought this paint because of a rebate promotion. Three coats in one room yielded okay coverage--can still see lines where I cut around the trim--so I primed the next room before using this paint + primer and three coats later, I can still see the difference between the rolled and brushed areas. This paint does not cover well, and it blends horribly. I've been painting for 23 years, and I won't be wasting my time with this junk again. September 5, 2016
