Do I need to sand between coats when using this on trim and walls?

I've primed even though this is a primer/paint. Even after priming, it is not covering well and slipping. Should I sand now? I fear the second coat won't stick if I don't.
Asked by: ellie
You should not have used a primer. This may be your problem. Some products are just not compatible with others. Use a roller.

The house is 8 years old and still had the original builders paint which was kind of yellow brown. I first washed the walls down with TSP Heavy Duty Cleaner. After cutting in the edges I rolled the the walls - two coats at once. Probably not a best practice but I rolled one wall at a time then went back to where I started and applied a second coat to that wall. Coverage was great. If I was painting my living room I would probably wait for the first coat to dry completely then apply the second coat. I am pleased with the results. I chose semi-gloss enamel so that I can easily wipe dirt and garage junk off the walls.

I have painted 20+ rooms over the years, but this was my first (and last) Behr experience. I am currently 4 coats into this room and the coverage is so minimal and streaky that I can still see the previous color (a pale hue). Here comes the 5th wall coat! It is a very thin and runny paint (a plus for cleaning brushes or drips). I gave up on the woodwork and switched back to my "old faithful" brand, which magically glides and hugs the trim at the same time. (Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Semi-Gloss)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Coverage, Beautiful Color PLUS ULTRA gave us excellent coverage! Changing from a dark beige (like Adobe Sand) w/o priming, coverage was so good that we probably could've quit after the first, light coat. Naturally, we applied the second, light coat to get a professional finish, and the luminosity of the color (Aloha) impressed us. One challenge: PLUS ULTRA dries SO quickly that we felt the need to work in just 30-inch columns in order to keep a wet edge workable. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I used it to paint my cleaned and primed trims and after 2 coats, it peels off like a membrane. I have done a lot of painting and this has never happened to me before, I normally use Glidden but only got BEHR as a substitute because the Glidden paint I wanted was not available at the time. Regrets. Thanks a lot BEHR.

Took four coats to cover flat, pale yellow using sponge roller. Not happy. Need to go buy more of this to finish because it takes so many coats to cover. Again, not happy.

I've used a few gallons of this stuff and would recommend just about any other non-Behr paint. As a "paint & primer in one," it doesn't do a very good job of concealing even fairly neutral/similar colors in less than three or four coats unless you're really slopping it on. But the biggest problem is that it doesn't adhere very well and it has a slightly gummy/soft feel, even after 18+ months in an arid environment. It just doesn't seem to "set" to the extent that other paints do. I've had this stuff peel right off of corner trim pieces when someone brushed it walking by. And just the other day, gently removing a piece of tape took the paint right off of a flat surface that was painted over six months ago. This just isn't quality stuff.

The paint began peeling on the walls (and yes we primed the walls and let the primer dry for over 24 hours before applying the first coat). We assumed it was the wall of the old house but when we painted brand new drywall we found paint was peeling off with the blue tape we used around the moulding. Really poor quality paint. We had to re-paint several walls. When we switched to another paint company we didn't have that problem so it was not the walls or the painters skills but the paint.
