Customer Questions & Answers

cover darker color with white

I have 2 walls that are dark greenish and I would like the walls white will 1 coat paint with primer do the job. I am going to paint the walls myself. Will the paint with primer work.
Asked by: myhouse
I will join Team NO. One coat did not cover a light blue wall and make it white. I would plan on two coats.

Virtually all paint available now is water-based. I guess that makes it "latex".

Will this seal old wood such as a wooden fence

Asked by: Dan
Hi Dan, Thanks for your question. We don't recommend using our Premium Plus Ultra Interior Matte paint on a wooden fence. Our interior coatings dry to a harder finish than our exterior products, so they can hold up to the kind of washing and scrubbing an interior surface is subjected to. Exterior coatings are flexible enough to move with the surface as it expands and contracts with the weather. I recommend using something like our Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer on your wooden fence instead, which can be viewed here: Best wishes for your project! - Sara

Absolute waste of money; I now have 5 coats on an already painted wall that was cream previously and I finally have coverage. That's not the worst part, we went back to the store and complained as the matte sheen is not even, it goes from flat to matte to more satin across the wall and depending which way the roller or brush was oriented. I was told it must be my roller, so I stupidly purchased another can and a new roller as recommended, but the finish is just the same and it is not the wall having different porosity. Window light shines across the wall and the paint finish looks terrible. We are giving up and going back to Kelly Moore.

We were persuaded to use Behr paint on the outside of our house last year. This year we told a different painter that we wanted to use Behr paint on the interior of our house. After painting one room he said," this is the best paint I've ever used." The picture is of the second bedroom he painted. This is an old house, and it needs all the help it can get.

I have used this product several times with excellent results in my home and others....not this time. I had about 65 feet of lineal wall to paint over a similar but lighter color. After two coats the finish was very uneven...shiny to flat and very poor coverage. I contacted the local Home Depot which gave me a number to call at Behr. I called and explained the situation. I was told I would have to prime all of the walls and apply two finish coats. Behr did furnish 1 gallon of primer and 1 gallon of paint. Not enough to complete the job but a start. I primed all of the walls and applied finish coats. The paint had very poor coverage and hiding ability even over primer. The finish is more semi gloss rather than matte or flat. The other rooms where I have used this product in the past have a very nice soft, matte finish. I don't know what has changed with this product but I will not be using it again. A simple repaint turned into a very time consuming project. When I have time, the entire areas will have to be repainted to my satisfaction with a different product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pure Ultra White = False economy, patchy mess & waste of time and money We just bought a house and wanted to update it in a contemporary clean Scandinavian looking White. I'm painting several rooms and hallways so with so much to paint on a tight budget and good reviews here I decided to go for it with the Behr. I wanted to get rid of the varied colours in each room which ranged from lilac to lime green! Doing so many rooms I tried a bedroom first. I used the Pure Ultra White so this review is only applicable to that colour. It's very hard to apply evenly, and I have painted several rooms in the past. It dries out very quickly and even taking great care to do an even application it looked very patchy. Decided to push on with the second coat hoping that would sort things out, and on a time deadline painted first coats on the other walls I had. The second coat still looked really patchy. As far as I'm concerned if it doesn't cover in 2 coats it's a waste of time. I was going from a pale baby blue to white so it should be able to cover. I did my rubbing down and prep. It also seems to have a drip issue, and I am careful not to be over generous. I had several large patches of runs which looked awful, and which I had to chip off, sand back down to smooth again before repainting over. I have no car so made several trips on the bus to Home Depot carrying back gallons of paint, so having to redo this is significant time and effort. Realising I would need to do at least 3 coats on all walls I decided I had to move to something else with 3 more rooms to paint. Very Frustrating. Bought Sherwin Williams super paint as they have a promotion on now and Benjamin Moore regal select to try. Super paint goes on like a dream. Soon as you try it you can tell how inferior the Behr is in comparison. However my second error of thinking I would use up the Behr I had as a base coat cost me again. The patchiness shows through the super paint too as it's so uneven so I gave myself even more work to do again. Had I done with super paint to begin with I'm sure it would have looked great in 2 I need to do a 3rd. Finally tried the regal select on a different room which has great coverage, was the thickest of the 3 and should be used very sparingly. Again it rolls on no patches and is far superior to Behr. It also covered in half a gallon what took nearly a full gallon of Behr. So I'm buying more regal select and I will now go over all walls in a top coat of this. Also the bright white tone "distant grey" has a hint more warmth than the Pure Ultra White, which has taken the walls from cheap uneven looking mess to now expensive looking white. Lesson learned - even using Behr as a base coat was a total waste of time and money.
