Dear lizM,
If your wallpaper is in good condition, you don't need to remove your wallpaper to paint your walls.
It's important to properly prepare your walls before painting over wallpaper. First, the wallpaper should be clean, free of oil grease and particulates. Remember, painting wallpaper will not correct the existing issues with wallpaper such as damages, peeling and lifting seams-these must be repaired prior to painting. Apply adhesive to edges and loose pieces to secure the wallpaper in place. Fill and lightly sand the seams to reduce the visibility of uneven surfaces. Keep in mind, if the wallpaper has a texture, the texture may show through the paint film.
Before topcoating, prime the entire surface with BEHR PREMIUM PLUS Oil-Based Primer and Sealer. Then topcoat with BEHR PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA Interior Paint & Primer in One. Multiple coats may be required for best results. Refer to the back label instructions for more information. Thanks for the inquiry and good luck with your project.
