Customer Questions & Answers

Can the Behr Gloss Enamel paint be used on plastic shutters on the outdoors of a house?

Can the Behr Gloss Enamel paint be used on plastic shutters on the outdoors of a house?
Asked by: TAO
Hi TAO, Thanks for writing in with your question. You can use our Premium Plus Ultra paint on vinyl shutters. Make sure that the surface is clean and dry. Be sure to scuff sand any shiny or glossy surfaces. Also, it is recommended to select a color lighter or the same as the existing color. Have a nice day! Regards, Giovanna

if my walls are white, do i still need primer?

also, for an 750 square foot house, how much paint is required? how long does it take to mix the colors? how many coats?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Rachel, From your question, I am unable to tell whether this is an interior or exterior project, so my answers are a bit general to cover both situations. I would recommend a primer in certain situations including: painting over hard/glossy or oil based coatings, when you want to paint over a stained area, when you are painting a porous surface, when you are painting over a repair and when you are making a drastic color change. Drastic color changes include starting with a dark color and covering it with a white or light color. It also includes the opposite- starting with a white or light color and painting over it with a vibrant color. A gallon of paint is enough to paint one coat on 250-400 square feet of surface. There is a range due to the fact that you will need more paint to cover rough or textured surfaces or surfaces that are not sealed (porous surfaces). Your technique and tools will also have an effect on how much paint you will need. For 750 square feet, you will use approximately two gallons of paint to put one coat on the surface. Your colors can be mixed and ready in a matter of minutes at your local The Home Depot store. Simply let the Paint Associate know which color you would like and she will select your BEHR paint from the shelf. She will then open the cans and dispense the colorant which takes a minute or so. The lids will go back on and the paint will be placed in the shaker where the paint will be mixed for several minutes. After that, the paint is labeled with the color information and ready to go. If you are painting a white wall with the color Parsley Sprig, you are making a drastic color change. I would expect more than one coat will be needed to completely hide the white color currently on your wall. A tinted primer (or primer coat of Ultra) will help reduce the number of coats needed. I recommend testing the color on the wall using a BEHR 8 oz. color sample. Thanks for your inquiry!
