Hi Gander,
I spoke to the manufacturer's of Teak Oil and they do not recommend applying paint over the product unless it is more than 18 months old. The product has water repellency that will inhibit paint from adhering properly. Behr Premium Plus Ultra Exterior Paint and Primer in One can be used on new mahogany provided the wood has been properly cleaned and prepared. Mahogany tends to have a lot of tannins, so I suggest applying a coat of Premium Plus Ultra Exterior Paint and Primer in One as a spot primer and waiting 12-16 hours to ensure the tannins have been locked into the primer coat. If any of the tannins bleed through, you will need to apply a second coat of Premium Plus Ultra Exterior Paint and Primer in One and test in a similar fashion.
One note, the name of the color is Silver Leaf #W-F-720 which is a very pale gray. It is not a metallic paint like a true silver leaf. Given that you are painting a sign, I wanted to make the distinction in case the latter is what you had in mind.

Answer:
Hi Gander,
I need more information to provide a proper recommendation. How recently was the wood coated with the teak oil? What did you coat (furniture, door, etc.)? Are there any issues with the project (staining, weathering etc.)? Kindly re-post with the details. Alternately, you may visit your local The Home Depot location where a Paint Associate can guide you through the proper product selection and Read More
