Some toilets splash a lot when flushed, so a seat with lid is used to prevent droplets wetting and soiling the seat, assuming the user put down the lid before flushing it. However, the lid that traps splashed droplets also traps the germs. When the lid is not put down, droplets will land on top of the seat which requires next user to wipe off before placing a toilet seat liner (hygiene paper toilet seat cover). So better buy a toilet that does not churn or splash like a white water rapid.
My Kohler 1.6 gpf toilet swirls down without splashing the seat when flushed, so this product is perfect. Plus the bumpers of this one-piece molded seat have no join gaps to trap scum, makes it easier to clean.

Our old seat was a safety hazard, it would slip and had potential for serious injury. The bolts would come constant loose requiring daily tightening. This new seat works phenomenally, and adds to the true beauty of the restroom.
