The hinges are plastic, the seat and lid are pretty heavy and may be wood or some kind of composite.

I just bought a new seat thinking that there would be new posts inside, too.

I just bought a new seat thinking that there would be new posts inside, too. There were none inside. I was thinking the reason the seat was popping off was that the posts were worn. If they don't come with the seat, how do you get new posts for the toilet seat to attach to?

If the toilet seat pops off is it defective or can it be fixed?

This question is from Lift-Off Never Loosens Round Closed Front Toilet Seat in Bone

Based on several reviews, evidently it's not uncommon for this toilet seat to "pop off" when leaning to the side. If that occurs does it indicate the seat is defective and can/should be replaced? Or, in some cases, might it be a problem which the homeowner could fix permanently (relatively speaking, e.g., 2+ years), for example, by tightening the bolts? I just bought one for my mother's condo (prior to reading reviews). Before installing it, I'd like to know up front: a) What's the likelihood of the problem occurring? And, b) if it does, what course of action should I take -- return it for warranty exchange or try to fix it?
Thank you for your response.

Answer:
I have had several commode seats pop off. Doesn't matter the brand and I just re-tighten them or sometimes have to buy new bolts but never have I had to buy a new seat for this problem.

Answer:
I don't think it's defective, I just think it's a poor design. Mine does the same thing. If you haven't installed it take it back. If you have installed it you might be able to drill through the plastic cap down into the center of the plastic bolt that holds the bracket to the bowl and install a small diameter self threading screw with a big washer under the head.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 121 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Fit. This is a good toilet seat for the price. It is solid and attaches to a toilet with long, easy-to-use bolts, which makes if easy to install in tight spaces. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stop dancing on your potty! Keeps your hiney from falling in the toilet just like it should. Easy peasy to install, and puts a stop to that unfashionable wiggle you've been meaning to get rid of for years. Don't delay. Replace your crummy old toilet seat with this one today. Bemis does it right. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Met expectations I have been trying to find a commode seat that would match the old one without looking too bad or paying the special order price for one. This one looks great. The color is a little darker than the OFF WHITE color I needed but you can barely tell. It matches the tub and shower perfectly though. Very happy with my purchase. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It never loosens it just pulls apart This is a nice solid seat, but it has a Mickey Mouse hinge attachment arrangement. It’s all plastic, kind of a snap-together lock-with-cap device. The hinge is sturdy, but the connection between the hinge and the little bracket that you mount on the toilet bowl is poorly designed and won’t stay together. It might not ever loosen, but it sure pulls apart every time you lean over to wipe your keister. It’s worthless, I had to take it off, trash it, and buy a $10.00 seat. I can live with loosening, but not with falling off the can. September 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value, nice looking Once the old seats were removed, these were very easy to install. Modern, comfortable, great value. Bought 2. October 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality product The product seems to be durable and goes well with the bathroom décor. Installation was very easily done by hand without tools. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sitting Pretty! My first toilet seat install :-) It was easy - instructions were on point. The seat worked out wonderful, the color matched & there hasn't been one problem! September 8, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor mounting design Overall solid construction and easy to install. But I have to agree with some of the other reviewers in that when you lean to either side the seat / hinge pops off the mounting bolts. Very annoying. I get the idea that you want to be able to remove the seat for cleaning, but it should not pop off under normal use. This is a poor mounting system design. July 16, 2016
