The hinges are plastic, the seat and lid are pretty heavy and may be wood or some kind of composite.

I just bought a new seat thinking that there would be new posts inside, too. There were none inside. I was thinking the reason the seat was popping off was that the posts were worn. If they don't come with the seat, how do you get new posts for the toilet seat to attach to?

If the toilet seat pops off is it defective or can it be fixed?

This question is from Lift-Off Never Loosens Round Closed Front Toilet Seat in Bone

Based on several reviews, evidently it's not uncommon for this toilet seat to "pop off" when leaning to the side. If that occurs does it indicate the seat is defective and can/should be replaced? Or, in some cases, might it be a problem which the homeowner could fix permanently (relatively speaking, e.g., 2+ years), for example, by tightening the bolts? I just bought one for my mother's condo (prior to reading reviews). Before installing it, I'd like to know up front: a) What's the likelihood of the problem occurring? And, b) if it does, what course of action should I take -- return it for warranty exchange or try to fix it?
Thank you for your response.

Answer:
I have had several commode seats pop off. Doesn't matter the brand and I just re-tighten them or sometimes have to buy new bolts but never have I had to buy a new seat for this problem.

Answer:
I don't think it's defective, I just think it's a poor design. Mine does the same thing. If you haven't installed it take it back. If you have installed it you might be able to drill through the plastic cap down into the center of the plastic bolt that holds the bracket to the bowl and install a small diameter self threading screw with a big washer under the head.

Lift-Off Never Loosens Round Closed Front Toilet Seat in White is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 141.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation and works well I found this toilet seat to be very easy to install, and it has been easy to clean. It came with everything needed for installation, and the brief instructions were very clear. One nice feature of this seat is that the nuts are self-torquing, so you just keep tightening them until the tips twist off. Thus you don't have to worry about under or over-tightening them (at least on initial installation--if you have to reinstall it, you'll have to figure out your own torque). The one thing I will mention about this seat is that it is a traditional-style seat controlled purely by gravity for going up and down, rather than being a soft-close style that very slowly closes after you start to push it down. If you have kids (or clumsy adults) that tend to loudly drop toilet seats, you might prefer a soft-close style. But for a traditional seat, I have no issues recommending this seat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Met expectations I have been trying to find a commode seat that would match the old one without looking too bad or paying the special order price for one. This one looks great. The color is a little darker than the OFF WHITE color I needed but you can barely tell. It matches the tub and shower perfectly though. Very happy with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent finish, ingenious mounting system - - but little seat screws may be hard to keep clean The first thing I noticed is the finish on the wood: excellent, solid high-gloss enamel. It looks like it will last a long time, and be easy to clean. And it feels really solid when you sit on it - the seat doesn't flex a bit, and it doesn't move from side to side. The mounting system is very clever. The seat separates completely, for easy clean-up. The mount is held firmly in position by a set of little fins (that disappear once installed) and a plastic nut (that disappears under the bowl - - the top part snaps off when you reach the correct torque). Once the mount is installed, you can snap the bowl off and on easily any time you want. Once mounted, the hinges are covered by oversize caps - - they won't show grunge, but may collect it underneath. The only thing I didn't like is the exposed small screws that hold the hinge to the seat, facing the user when the seat is up. I'm afraid this is a guaranteed grunge magnet - - and I don't know how to easily keep it clean.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It never loosens it just pulls apart This is a nice solid seat, but it has a Mickey Mouse hinge attachment arrangement. It’s all plastic, kind of a snap-together lock-with-cap device. The hinge is sturdy, but the connection between the hinge and the little bracket that you mount on the toilet bowl is poorly designed and won’t stay together. It might not ever loosen, but it sure pulls apart every time you lean over to wipe your keister. It’s worthless, I had to take it off, trash it, and buy a $10.00 seat. I can live with loosening, but not with falling off the can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best seat in town Unit is a good quality, great features, easy to install and exhibits a nice appearance. No more slamming the toilet seat in my house......In my life I have set on many seats and cannot recall any better seat than this one. Here is another thing, if you remember walking in the aisle displaying toilet seats, the mass of them on the wall, while not hundreds, however the appearance of I have just rescued you from such an encounter, just know your color and round or oblong plucking one of these from the sea of seats.....Please mention my name to get a good seat...................My Best....DougC

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do you know what its like to get a toilet seat home and you cant install it because the hardware ... Do you know what its like to get a toilet seat home and you cant install it because the hardware is wrong? The hardware on my seat is for a completely different toilet. There is no way that the hinges will snap over the top of the bolt (the top of the bolt is too big) so now, because I tossed the old toilet seat I had to makeshift install and cant open the lit all of the way. I emailed customer service with my address and the model number to send me correct hardware. They told me to call. Now I have to order a 2nd seat. Best believe I will be sending the other one back!
