I'm not sure what you mean by "the screws do not loosen as advertise," because they should NOT lossen at all! You probably need to tighten the bolts more. Your hands, alone, may not be sufficient, and you may not be holding/tightening it, properly: The top of the bolt (the white part) is just a washer, and does not turn the bolt; so, if you hold that part, even while holding the bottom nut, nothing will Read More

If you've never removed the seat (it's made to be easily removable!), my guess is you did not 'snap' the bolts into the holes in the seat's bolt flanges before installing. This seat is not installed like a basic seat. You can't just sit the bolts in the flange holes.

If you've never removed the seat (it's made to be easily removable!), my guess is you did not 'snap' the bolts into the holes in the seat's bolt flanges before installing. This seat is not installed like a basic seat. You can't just sit the bolts in the flange holes.
You may be able to remedy this while it's installed. Flip open the bolt covers on the plastic flanges and push down on the flange bases until the round holes in them 'snap' into the bolts. If you get them to snap in, then it's fixed. Just close the bolt covers and it should stay on now.
If you cannot get them to snap into each other, then unscrew the bolts underneath and remove the seat, open the bolt covers and then turn it upside down onto a soft surface like a rug. Then insert the bolt heads into the holes in the bottom of the flanges with the bolts sticking up and push hard so they snap into the holes. They should not fall out when you turn the seat over/upright again. Then re-install.
It is designed so you can open the bolt covers and pull the seat off every time you clean the toilet, and snap the seat back down onto the bolts after.
Hope this helps. Read Less

Answer:
The "hole" is an oval measuring 10-1/4" at its longest (front to back) and 8-1/2" at its widest (side to side), which should be more than adequate for most standard round toilets (NOT for elongated toilets, such as those found in most businesses, retailers, restaurants, etc).

Mine has not incurred any stains as of yet, despite a few rush jobs, if you know what I mean. If you were to use bleach, I would dilute it by one-half, or just use other simple household bathroom cleaners or foaming cleaners. It cleans in just a few seconds with no effort at all.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 70 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Idea for Toilet Seat Lift-off never loosens toilet seat is a great idea for ease of cleaning the top of the toilet. Installation takes less than 5 minutes. Instructions state to use a wrench and a rachet/socket; but only need to hand tighten the elongated nut that fits beneath and use a standard blade screw driver to finish for a snug fit. Just simply remove the old seat, install the lift-off nuts, lift the tabs on the nut covers and snap the seat in place, then press shut the top taps . When needing to remove the seat, just lift up the top taps and lift off the toilet seat. July 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice design. The toilet seat pops off for cleaning This toilet seat was very easy to install using my 1/2 inch nut driver once I figured out the instructions. You will need a pair of pliers if you do not have a 1/2 inch socket, end wrench or nut driver. The instructions are clear if you read them twice and follow them once! The reason I gave "ease of installation" a 4 -good- rating is because the illustrations are so small it was hard for me to tell which end was up but most people probably wouldn't have that problem. Regarding quality, somewhere between opening the package and installing the toilet seat I scratched the paint a tiny bit. I honestly do not know if it came that way with a minor defect or if it was my fault. In any case, the paint must be pretty thin so I gave it a 4 -good- rating for "quality". The really nice thing about the seat is that it really does pop right off so you can easily clean the whole top rim of the toilet. Really nice-especially if you have boys :). Also, the directions tell you to tighten the bolts from underneath until the nut on the bottom pops off but I did not do that. I chose to leave it on because I think it will make removal easier when that time comes. I could be wrong so look at the fasteners and decide for yourself. July 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by excellent finish, ingenious mounting system - - but little seat screws may be hard to keep clean The first thing I noticed is the finish on the wood: excellent, solid high-gloss enamel. It looks like it will last a long time, and be easy to clean. And it feels really solid when you sit on it - the seat doesn't flex a bit, and it doesn't move from side to side. The mounting system is very clever. The seat separates completely, for easy clean-up. The mount is held firmly in position by a set of little fins (that disappear once installed) and a plastic nut (that disappears under the bowl - - the top part snaps off when you reach the correct torque). Once the mount is installed, you can snap the bowl off and on easily any time you want. Once mounted, the hinges are covered by oversize caps - - they won't show grunge, but may collect it underneath. The only thing I didn't like is the exposed small screws that hold the hinge to the seat, facing the user when the seat is up. I'm afraid this is a guaranteed grunge magnet - - and I don't know how to easily keep it clean. August 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy install; great price; comfortable The Bemis round toilet seat was easy to install. It took less than 5 minutes for this DIYer to remove the old seat and install this new one. All I needed was a large, flat-blade, screwdriver and an open-jaw wrench (n.b., there are NO instructions, but it should be intuitive for most people). It fits snugly on its seat bolts (no wiggling!), and is easy to remove for cleaning the bottom and back of the seat, as well as the top surface of the toilet bowl, where dust and dirt can collect. I found it to be more comfortable than the old, plastic, one, of which the paint was coming off at an embarrassing spot! It should be noted that this is NOT a "slow-close" seat, but, given its low price, as long as you don't mind a bit of noise if someone drops the lid, then this is the seat for you! June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This only works with a round toilet. This toilet seat cover works great. Very easy to install within a 4 to 5 minute mounting session. My wife and I really happy with the install and cleaning. I already had the wrong seat cover and now we have the exact size to the toilet. This Bemis brand makes it super wonderful to use when it's the exact size. My wife says it's super easy to clean and wow. I'm a happy camper. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great seating I spent a tad more than in the past, but the quality is far superior. A toilet seat gets constant use, so why not pay a little more for a sturdier, sounder product? I did, and I'm glad. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent quality toilet seat This toilet seat was super easy to install and took around 10 minutes for the complete work. The fit was perfect on my round toilet bowl. The construction is made up of glossy enameled wood and feels pretty solid as well as comfortable to sit on. Once installed it can be cleaned easily by removing it from the toilet bowl using the snap off hinge. I would definitely recommend this seat if you are looking for an excellent quality basic toilet seat. April 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Toilet Seat Features are convenient This toilet seat is round and attaches easily to the toilet. I really like the bolt system which keeps the seat in place with its "ribbed connectors". No more problems with the seat moving out of place on the toilet bowl. It also disconnects from the bowl easily for cleaning and takes no time at all to thoroughly clean it. I gave an overall rating of 4 because the connectors were a little difficult to snap apart and because they were plastic, I'm hoping they don't break after several removals to clean the seat. The actual seat itself was above average quality and quite sturdy and I would recommend it. Far better quality than a cheaper plastic lidded seat. July 12, 2016
