We have had this seat just 1 year and 1 month exactly. The chrome has pitted already and seat stains easily. For $30.00 + tax., it should last better than a year. Only thing that lasted was it stayed slow closing. Other than that its junk. I can get the same results with a junky seat for half the cost.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gramak Saw this product in my son's home and loved it
Exactly what I wanted, slow closing lid with a more expensive shiny finish on the metal hinges! Comfort and quality function with great aesthetic appeal ... as far as toilet seats go, it was perfect! We also installed in the downstairs bath which was updated with new baseboards from Home Depot!

Loved the seat until it cracked. Took it back for exchange. It also cracked in under 6 months. Both times on left side. I guess because I`m right handed. Called the company to complain. Customer service was very nice. I suggested the company add two more bumpers underneath. I exchanged it again and when the company sends me two more bumpers i will modify the seat because i like the way it closes slowly. They are also sending me a courtesy replacement. Will see how that works out. It is a shame I cannot recommend because of cracking !

I too purchased this seat for the "whisper close" hinges and loved the seat at first. I am now extremely frustrated with the product and the fact that Home Depot still stocks this toilet seat even though there are obvious manufacturing defects in it. The seat cracked on the left side several months after I installed it. I thought it was a fluke defect, a lemon, and returned it for a replacement. 3 months later (this week) the replacement seat broke in the same place! Unacceptable. Home Depot should not stock this product.

Can't live without this toilet seat. The whisper close is the best invention yet. Don't know why Home Depot won't stock this one in their stores. This one has the metal hinges - don't like the plastic hinges, they wear out too quickly. Luckily you can get this seat online and it is well worth it. Although it must come with a warning. Once you own a whisper-close toilet seat, beware! When you are at a friend's house you will forget they don't have a whisper-close toilet seat and you will slam their seat!

OK. I thought this would be an excellent toilet seat because of the men in the house; quiet let down...cool! The first one cracked on the left side as I sat on it! OUCH! That pinched so hard I had tears. So I thought it was just a fluke so I replaced it. The second one cracked IN THE SAME PLACE as my husband sat on it! OK, now that isn't funny as I remembered the pain of it all. Since these seats are not cheap, I thought they would work out great and last a long time. Nope, 4.5 months later and I will NOT buy a third one.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by djsupanova1 Thank GOD for BEMIS excellent customer service!
My two broke after about 3 months of use. They wouldn't close properly, one set of hinges had the chrome chipping and peeling off making it impossible to clean. I contacted Bemis and told them what happened. The woman sent me a letter to print out and take to the store with her personal extension on it. HD said go pick out 2 new ones. Well, I guess HD knows how terrible these seats were so they were on clearance and the one they had left in stock was visibly broke. So I picked out a similar model (583SLOW) and HD said everything was fine and to just make sure I take my old ones with me. The ONLY reason I give this 3 stars is because Bemis really kicked butt in the Customer service department. We'll see how long the next ones last. But next time I need a seat, I'll be buying a Bemis just because of this fact!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HDcjr From 3-time loser: Excellent hinges, but the seat won't last.
Last fall, I grew tired of the two old toilet seats in our house because they wouldn't stay tight no matter how often I ratcheted them down. At Home Depot, I was attracted to this Bemis Sta-tite model because the brushed chrome hinges looked solid and the installation method is fool-proof. I also liked the solidity of the molded-wood seats vs. the flimsy plastic models I had. Indeed, once installed, I was thrilled with how solid and stable both seats were.
Within two months, however, one seat cracked as I sat down, pinching my thigh. Thinking I'd simply bought a lemon, I replaced it with the same model. Within two more months, it cracked again. I replaced it with a plastic model by another manufacturer.
Yesterday, the other Bemis seat cracked. Today, I'm heading back to Home Depot, and I guarantee I won't be leaving with a Bemis toilet seat.
