I noticed one reviewers mention of this one not being wood and being made of plastic and they were returning it.
Well, thats exactly the reason I selected it, because its plastic.
I actually had the two to pick from, had them both in my hands and decided on the plastic.
I have never had a wooden seat yet that the paint didn't wear off of in contact spots of that didn't get scratched up by watches and rings etc.
I am 200 pounds and can stand on the closed lid, no problem.
Its very easy to remove to clean around the attachment points and cleans with a mild detergent, no problem.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by volk Not working after 16 months
Purchased exactly 16 months ago at local home depot. After exactly 16 months the "SLOW CLOSE" is not slow anymore: the cover just falls with loud sound on to toilet seat. I will not buy again Bemis products.

Easy to install, which by far is it's best feature. However, the seat slips from side to side - very annoying. I am not a large person and my husband is tall but average weight. It's tightened as much as possible. All I can say is that it doesn't work for our toilet, although it took several days before the slipping started. I would like to know if the manufacturer has any suggestions?

I never thought I'd review a toilet seat, but this one (made in USA) really does provide a worry-free close operation. It's so smooth, it's almost like it's driven by hydraulics. As someone who accidentally slams toilet seats closed, this one takes the worry out of it. Comfort-wise, it's average. But, it holds you up and doesn't crack or permanently bend the way cheaper seats do.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by George Won't buy again
My wife and I (a retired couple without children and few visitors) moved into our brand new house two years ago. The builder installed Bemis Slow Close Toilet Seats (from Home Depot) in all three of the bathrooms. Bemis (the manufacturer) states these Slow Close Toilet Seats should hold up (continue to slow close) for 30,000 to 50,000 operations. Well, the Slow Close Toilet Seat in the bathroom used the least in our house has quit working. It now slams down like any regular or old fashioned seats, unless you remember to ease it down by hand. My personal opinion about this product is either we got a fluke or Bemis is junk. Either way, it is out of warranty (manufacturer and the builder). Bemis need not expect us to ever recommend their products.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jerbear Works! Well made & easily removable for cleaning.
Have had two of these for a couple of years now, and they work perfectly. No more slamming (except when away from home and I fail to notice that they don't have one (why would anyone NOT have one?) Takes two seconds to remove the seat for cleaning & two more to install with only a twist of the wrist! Yes it's plastic, but thick and strong--easy to keep clean and (for a toilet seat) comfortable. As good as it gets.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by rxmacon Lid slow close mechanism stopped working at 18 mos (disappointing!)
Love the product, but the slow close mechanism for the lid stopped working at 18 mos. The seat was just used by my wife and I, so I'd say use was average and that the lid wasn't misused in any way. Very disappointing!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MsFixit Whisper Close Hinge has failed
I am very disappointed in this product. This toilet seat is in the guest bathroom. The Whisper Close hinge has failed after "average" use at best. The company apologizes but offers to do nothing. I will never purchase another product from Bemis.
