The design of the fasteners that bolt the seat onto the bowl are quite unique: they have a typical metal bolt set into a plastic "plug" that has little tabs in all four directions that can bend, so that it snugly fits into the hole in the toilet bowl. This prevents it from slipping around as much if the bolt loosens. But it also poses a problem when the holes drilled into your toilet bowl are not aligned very well, as you don't have very much "play" to try and center the seat. For each of my 3 Briggs toilets, snapping off the plastic tabs wasn't enough, I actually had to cut away the plastic surrounding the bolt on one side, on each of the bolts, so that it could twist far enough for the seat to be centered.
The soft-close feature also works a little too well, closing the lid so slowly that it's still 1/4 open when you would typically flush, allowing some splash-out to occur (small droplets that you don't usually see, but can leave splatter the wall). At least the seat is comfortable and looks nice!

Nice sturdy seat - Metal parts not the cheap plastic - glad we paid more for a better product.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by iluvmyGSD Great toilet seat
This seat is for our mudroom round toilet. The seat is thick and comfortable and my 200lb husband can sit on the closed lid without it buckling under him. The hinges are rectangular in shape and different than the shape pictured. The rectangle shape is easier to clean so I like what I got. No screws show on the hinges. The white matches well with our white kohler toilet. Pretty easy to install, but the directions were necessary.
My only complaint is that the seat opening seems a bit small. We sit on it OK and it's not actually too small for our bottoms, but it would have been nice to have little larger opening. Regardless, I would buy it over again and do not regret my purchase.
Very nice quality and the soft close feature works great.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kimbrulea Buying another for powder room
We purchased this for our master bath since it was less expensive than the brand made in WI and knew no one would see it. We purchased the WI brand for our main floor powder room and it is time for a new one for the this bathroom and we're getting this Bemis model. It cleans easily and hasn't stained at all. The slow closing mechanism is still working perfectly after 5 yrs of daily use.

I thought I was ordering additional slow close toilet seats with the chrome detail, but did not notice that this one had a nickel finish. It met my expectations, so I kept it anyway. I replaced all of the toilet seats in the house with slow close toilet seats to safeguard the family jewels of my newly potty-trained, but now transitioning to the toilet bowl grandsons. They just barely reach the edge of the toilet bowl. How tragic if the toilet seat ever slams down.

no-slam lid is amazing and so easy to clean, the whole unit pulls right off with the moving of two clips and can be put back on just as quickly.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MJM1 Did Not fit-Bolts too short
The 2 bolts that snap into the seat only stick through the toilet mounting flange about 3/8".
The plastic nuts will not engage the threads until about 3/8". The bolts are too short-just wasted more that 2 hours-purchasing-finding out the bolts are too short-and returning. Thanks Bemis-your engineering is nothing to be proud of.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dave Mine Failed, But I Got Another
I've never been impressed much by any toilet seat, but this was an exception. The seat was solid, never loosened, and the no-slam feature was really great. It was also the easiest to remove and clean I'd ever seen, and that particular quick-release feature seemed more durable than most.
Unfortunately, the no-slam feature began to fail after four months, and by the fifth month, the seat would fall pretty fast. So I checked Bemis' website which said if the product was still was within its one-yr. warranty, I could take it right back to the store.
I took it back to Home Depot and got a refund with no problem (as a store credit). Because I liked the seat so well, I replaced it with the same model. I haven't seen any other reviews where the slow-close feature went bad, so I hope mine was just a fluke.
