Product Overview

Introduced in 1936, the original BESSEY malleable cast iron bar clamp was the world’s first bar clamp. Clamp with traditional wood handles are still available and quite popular however, many models are now also available with composite plastic handles as well as with tommy bar (sliding pin) handles. Many of these Clamps have also been fitted with replaceable pressure pads that are easily replaced, and allow for replacement of damaged spindles.

  • BESSEY anti-slip set screw is molded into the sliding arm and interlocks with the serrated rail to prevent slippage
  • Corrugated malleable cast iron fixed jaw and sliding arm generate powerful, rigid clamping and the top jaw is press fitted to rail with no mechanical fasteners to loosen
  • High quality profiled steel rail acts as a reliable reinforcement against torsional forces, while the serration on six faces additionally prevents the clamp from slipping
  • Hardened, smooth running spindle with acme thread means quicker clamping action
  • Comfortable composite plastic handle

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Clamps. 12 inches is a very handy and convenient size. I don't think any woodworker enjoys paying for clamps but we can all agree that you can never have too many. There have been times where I've had every one of my clamps tied up, so I just keep adding to the collection every now and again. I like this style and have several sizes in my shop. I wish the depth were better, but I have a couple of options for deeper clamping to handle those situations. I built myself a wall hanger for all my clamps and let me tell you that it is a real joy to be able to grab a clamp from the rack with no slow down on the task at hand. These clamps are a standard design and I have no complaints about that design. Sure, it's hard to one-hand-it, but that's the nature. You can use a quick clamp for the initial clamping and then build these up around the quick clamp, removing it along the way. They give great clamping pressure without any difficulty. Note that Bessey makes monster versions of this clamp which are much more expensive and have much better depth. ADVICE: You might be tempted to not spend the cash on 12" clamps and go with more 18" clamps. While that's a more versatile approach, I highly recommend both. There are times where an 18" clamp is just too bug and cumbersome. Also, having a half dozen 18" bars sticking out on a small box is unpleasant work. January 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Larger reach than most clamps This bar clamp has a larger reach than most of the clamps, and still has the protective plastic to keep from marring the material you are working on. August 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for securing jigs and workpieces to benches and fences. I received one of these through the Seeds program and was impressed enough that I immediately ordered 3 more. They are sturdy clamps, well made. The jaws align precisely and they stay in alignment when I crank down on them, even when they are holding a thick assembly of layered stock with slippery glue between each layer. I thought that I would not like the plastic-rubber composite handles, but after using these and several other Bessey clamps with the composite handles, I think I prefer them to the wooden ones. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Clamping These are the best! They are good looking clamps and perform flawlessly. Easy to use. Very comfortable handles and easy to set in place. Protective covers at both ends is a plus. Solid! January 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Clamp This is cast-iron construction so it is very sturdy. The long reach and great clamping ability, plus the protected ends make this product a great addition to your shop. This should last a long time! January 28, 2015
