Can the string be replaced with fixed string head or with a trimmer blade to reduce the issues with string feeding?

I'm looking for a corded electric trimmer that I can swap out the string for a blade so I don't have to mess with the string as much. I see most blades go with the gas trimmers. I'm wondering if this one is compatible with a blade?

I used a heavier string .095 I was thinking about putting a blade on it, but knowing my son was going to be using I opted not to do that.

I don't know if it's possible to replace the string head with a fixed one. If the trimmer blade isn't cutting the line the way it should try using a metal file on the blade to sharpen it. I've seen some reviews where this has helped considerably.

Answer:
I read this question before and asked my husband about it. He said that even if it would be possible, it is dangerous. If string accidentally touch your foot or cord, it will not do any damage or injury. The blade could injure you or cut the cord, which is dangerous. My husband is Mechanical Engineer. He does different repairs by himself. I rely on his opinion.

Answer:
I use .095, works great without feed issues. Just don't put more than the spool hold, because it doesn't feed well then and will jam up.

Answer:
It states right in the specifications for this item that it the size line it takes is .065 . The .065 line is the universal size of most string trimmers. I don't know why you would want to try to use thicker line. The .065 is usually sufficient for most any of the trimming uses I can think of.

I don't know if the string is a stock item because I only have this a short time and did not need the replace string yet. Maybe you can go to Black and Decker website to check it out.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best small trimmer ever I bought this same trimmer probably 15 years ago. For a small trimmer it gets a heavy duty workout from me (huge yard). So happy to have found the same trimmer - plug it in to an extension cord and your ready to go. Very precise trimming, light weight, can trim for hours. August 17, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by I wondered if 20 bucks would buy much, and it doesn't. It works exactly like it was engineered. It's just not engineered to be enough. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works perfectly Ideal for small lawns. Does not overheat. Efficient and does the work. August 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Returned This trimmer wasn't available in the store to see, so ordering online was a mistake. I am very surprised that this trimmer got so many good reviews! I had this trimmer for less than 24 hours and returned it. First it is very short....not ergonomic at all. I am 5'10 and this trimmer is way too short for me. Second, it's light but it isn't that comfortable to use the way it needs to be tilted. Third, it is still noisy despite being electric. I will spend more and get a better trimmer. July 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Small But Mighty I have purchased this weedeater for years. Used to be able to buy in stores, now last 2-3 years have to order it online. This weedeater is lightweight and easy to handle and use. I am a short female and the length of the handle is good for someone who is not tall. Tall people would probably get tired from having to stoop over to operate this unit. I weedeat both sides of a chain link fence and weight of unit is easy to swing over fence and I like that is doesn't have a big head and brush guard so I am able to get close to whatever I am weedeating. Due to my situation of weedeating both sides of chainlink fence I have to bump feed string a lot and after 2 years of use the knob on the spool that you use to bump on ground will hollow out in the middle and the unit becomes useless because it doesn't want to bump feed. Wish Black and Decker would put a metal rod in the spool to make it sturdier and last me more years. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for it's size. Great for light duty! Don't try to power thru your work and it'll operate just fine. I use it with a 14 gauge 3 prong 100' ft outdoor cord for my approx 1/4 acre yard. Inexpensive, lightweight, quiet, and easy to maintain make it a solid deal for small yards anywhere. No fuel to mess with, just plug n play...after you assemble it with 2 nuts n bolts. You can be trimming in 5 min. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great price Can't beat it for the price! This is the 2nd one I've owned. I had the last one for 5 years so I didn't hesitate to get the same thing. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product This product does exactly what I need it to do and is super easy to use. Even though it is electric it still packs a punch. Definitely would recommend this weed eater. July 19, 2016
