Is there any assemble to be done?

Being an elderly single lady, my concern is that when I open the box, do I have to assemble any parts, or am I in luck and just plug it in????
Asked by: Doberman
The guard has to be installed which you have to do. It is in the Black and Decker bush trimmer box as a separate unit. The screws come out where the guard is to be installed and you just re-screw it back on the trimmer.

I have numerous large ornamental grasses in my yard, and using this is VASTLY better than the handheld shears I had been using. Why only one star then? Because after using it all last year, I noticed it cut with much greater difficulty this year. It obviously needed sharpening. The manual states the high quality steel blades will never need sharpening under normal conditions. Any gardener knows that there is no cutting tool made that never requires sharpening. The only way I could see to sharpen the blades was to take it apart and separate the two cutting blades. This required unscrewing the two plastic halves. The switch popped loose when the two halves sprung. After I sharpened the blades and put it all back together, it will not turn on. I cannot figure out how to ling the switch to the on-off switch I see. Nothing on line addresses this. When I contacted B&D and asked for diagram of the internal parts so that I could see how to put it all back together properly, I was informed that liability laws prevent them from giving me this information. So if you consider this a disposable piece of equipment which is useful for one good season, you will be pleased with the purchase. If you are one of those folks like me who prefer to buy a quality tool and maintain it properly so that it performs well for many years, you will be very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great and easy to use! It was easy to use and light weight for petite female like me. Me and husband are doing yard work by ourselves, so getting hedge trimmer was a big help for us. The only thing was it makes a loud noise. Maybe all hedge trimmer makes a loud noise just like leaf/snow blowers and lawn mower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice! I decided on this trimmer as the price was right and for the small size. It shipped in its original manufacturers box, which was very flimsy and when I opened it the cutting bar was bent. I bent it back into shape with no issues. It is fairly light weight, cuts very well and is extremely loud. The neighbors down the block thought that I was using a wood plainer it was so loud. Overall it was a good purchase and the performance is nice. Don't let the 16" length fool you as it cuts a nice path quickly. The only (con) is that the electrical cord retainer/holder opening was too large and would not hold my cord in place as described.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for small yard Only assembly was with a screwdriver putting shield on (see photo). No biggy. Only 16 in long, so best for small shrubs. Also makes it lightweight, which I needed. Good directions for best way to be safe and get a nice shape. Needs your own electric cord. Found a good online sale, and shipped to store for free. (pfft, who goes to HD for just 1 thing anyway!) Easy, quick, pickup at Customer Srv, and nice employee.

Now if I could just teach the person using it about geometric shapes. We have both taken Geometry classes, but I am the only one that sees the edges, even while working on it. Understanding shape is important as well as what can be done with each shrub. Other than that, it works fine.

I had previously used a small 12" battery operated model and the battery stopped taking a charge. When I purchased this I was amazed at how well it trimmed the topiary bushes in the front of my house. I'm extremely satisfied.
