18-Volt Straight Shaft Cordless String Trimmer-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 267.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fine wacker. So far this B&D trimmer is practically perfect. Of course, it's not professional grade but for light-moderate around the home. I've wacked some pretty thick weed patches, and used it on grass slopes where I'm simply too old (62) to wrestle with the lawnmower. Two batteries are mandatory for an hour of weed work, and the super-duper battery charger (thirty bucks) is well worth it. If you're lazy like me, changing the pre-wound spool is a snap (twenty bucks for three). The 'kids' came over and took it out of our hands, and loved it. After twenty minutes I changed the battery, and they kept going and going. My significant other said it reminded her of Tom Sawyer whitewashing the fence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, a Grass Trimmer I Use Cordless is the way to go if you're a homeowner with a standard sized yard. Our property is only about 10,000 sq.ft. and this trimmer handles both the front and back yard on a single charge with no problem. In fact, I generally Trim the grass and use the same battery to blow the sidewalks clean with the B&D blower. I now own the Grass Trimmer, the Hedge Trimmer, and the Blower. The three items came with four batteries, so I never have to worry about not having enough power to finish a job. Before going cordless, I found myself skipping the jobs of Trimming and Edging, as well as cleanup, just because it was a hassle to take out and plug in the extension cords. Now it's so easy, I use this equipment every week. I've had my Trimmer for about 3 yrs now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely satisfied I have a gas powered trimmer with an hedge trimmer attachment - it can be hard to start and cumbersome for trimming. The Black & Decker product is exactly what I was looking for. I have about 2/3 of an acre but have the yard setup not to require a lot of trimming. I used it this weekend - total run time about 8 minutes. Plently of battery power remaining. Just pressing a buttton to run it almost seems like a luxury. Seems more powerful than an old electric (corded) trimmer I have. Did a fine job with moderate depth grass. The recent deal was a very good one - along with the 2 batteries in the package a 3rd is included as a bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BD did it right This is my first cordless trimmer. All the trimmers I had before required me to reload the reel several times. That and dealing with the power cords made trimming a pain. I used this one the first time to trim the yards of the house I rented. So I dropped one of the refill rolls I bought in my pocket figuring the original reel must be getting low. However I still had plenty of line on the original reel when I was done. My front yard is very large. This trimmer make trimming and edging easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the Ryobi 24 volt lithium I love this weed trimmer. I am a 60 yr old woman and it is very easy to use and light weight. The batteries will last about 30 minutes, using both. That is the only downside to this trimmer. I bought a Ryobi 24 volt lithium battery trimmer for $160...wanting the longer battery life. However, the 24 volt trimmer didn't have the power this little trimmer does. I'm taking it back. If you can get extra batteries for this trimmer, it's be a good investment if you want to cut longer than 30 minutes. This is one tough little trimmer, it powers through weeds better than the 24 volt did. The power switch is easy to keep on..doesn't require much pressure, which I like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Simple to Use and Maintain I purchased this 18 Volt B&D Trimmer during the summer of 2010 at Home Depot, and purchased a third battery and extra string kits, (2012 price $3.50 more per string set). I have a 1/4 acre property and I just make it with the three (3) 2.5-year-old batteries, doing three edger cuts along a 110-ft sidewalk and curb and two cuts along the 25 ft walk; trimming a raised garden bed 5' x 40 ft.; three sides of the house and 20' x 40 ft side of the garage, also around numerous planters and displays on the property. The automatic string feed work’s great and it is so simple when changing spools. I charge the batteries for 10 to 12 hours (plus) each on the days immediately before use. I now only have a problem with one of the original batteries not holding up as long as the others when doing the property. It was the best $115 or $120 investment (with extra battery) garden power tool purchase I ever made. No more gas model 2 cycle fuel mix, spark plugs; no more problems with starting, trim string and spool changing, tool weight and above all loud noise, all have gone away. The B&D Trimmer does take longer to cut/trim, it is not as fast as the gas model, until you count prep time, service, maintenance and time to correct usage problems of the latter unit. This is the one tool that Black & Decker should get the Genius Award for, it is so simple to use and maintain. If anyone is having problems with this Trimmer, read the Manufacturer’s Instructions; if the problem continues call the Manufacturer, you may have purchased a statistical deviation of a quality product (a lemon), have them replace it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for a small to medium lawn I have approximately 2000 sq/ft of front lawn and a little over that in the back. I have a corded trimmer that was too much of a hassle to manage. I did some research on the gas trimmers and either the low priced ones had mediocre reviews or the better/pricier ones where overkill. A cordless, if well designed, would be perfect. I've have always been impressed with Black and Decker products, they understand what the small lawn owner needs and provided precisely what I was looking for. With two 18 volt rechargeable battery packs I'm easily able to do the whole lawn. The trimmer line length and motor output works well with grass plus no more bumping to feed. And it's lightweight. Now when I'm ready to trim the lawn its no more "I got to drag out that cord" again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from How about a battery upgrade? This B&D 18 volt cordless trimmer is very well designed and easy to use. Unfortunately, the battery (2 are included) only lasts for about 10 minutes. That's simply not enough time to do any serious yard work, or moderate work for that matter. Since there's only one charger included with the trimmer and it takes 9 hours to charge a battery, once the two batteries are used up (that's only 20 minutes of work) one must wait 9 hours (actually 18 hours) to use the trimmer again. So my questions are: Is there a better battery available for this trimmer? Or must I donate this one to someone and buy a better cordless trimmer?
