Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 223 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good mower The mower was easy to assemble and set up. This is our first electric mower, and getting used to working around the extension cord is a bit unusual, but I think it will be fine. The start up is insanely easy, just pull a lever, no force required at all. And it's unusual how quickly it stops when you let go, none of that wind-down you get with gas mowers. Just let to of the lever and it instantly stops. As for power, it seems plenty strong enough for even thick 4-5 inch high grass that's damp, which is about the worst I should ever be putting it through. Over all, a good mower. I hope, since it's electric, it will last for years and years. June 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best mower purchase of my adult life - and that's been a pretty long time. Rather than re-state the obvious advantages of this B&D electric model over gas-powered mowers (lighter weight, quieter motor, easier starting, less fuss, etc.), I'll point out the positive similarities between the two types. And I should know. This is my first electric version in over four decades of owning lawn mowers, and it appears that I chose the right one. After years of buying lower priced gas mowers (I've never had a huge yard), I decided two years ago to purchase a better brand and model in hopes that it would last much longer than the three year average of my throwaways. The price was just over four hundred dollars. It lasted two years and I have a repair estimate of nearly two hundred and fifty dollars to fix it. So I threw out my doubts about electric models and decided to give one a try. The reviews here helped me pick the B&D MM1800. And I'm glad that I did. So here's how the MM1800 is similar in performance to your old gas mower: 1. Power is equal to that of gas under the most-common conditions. In taller or thicker grass, if you feel the motor starting to labor, either slow your roll or raise the cutting height - no different than gas. 2. That manicured look is the same. After mowing, the B&D leaves a smooth, even cut with no stragglers to mar your work. No re-mowing is required. 3. It also mows close to obstacles. In fact this mower seems to get even closer than my old gas models, requiring less trimming. It snuggles up to flowerbeds, pots and edging like it's in love. 4. The big 7" wheels let the mower cover uneven terrain as easily, if not easier than, any gas mower I've owned. True enough, it's not self propelled. But that's a feature that has always caused maintenance problems for me anyway. 5. The B&D also cuts just as well in reverse as it does forward. Just be mindful of the location of your power cord when pulling the mower backward. 5. I can't find anything a gas mower can do that this one can't except not cut up a power cord (more about that issue in a moment). And when adding in the most obvious advantages, buying electric is a no-brainer; which reinforces the fact that I am a slow learner. About that cord: The owners manual provides a clear diagram to assist you in not mowing over a power cord - back and forth, always moving away from the electrical outlet. But even if you prefer as I do, to cut in "circles" so to speak, you can. Unless your cutting path is more than forty feet long or so, you may still cut in circles, simply whipping the cord out of your next cutting pass once every round. I'm sure my method is not recommended by safety engineers, nor corporate lawyers, but it's easy to accomplish without a hitch. And before I forget: Black & Decker has provided the MM1800 with a secure power cord attachment system that ensures a positive connection without putting strain on the mower or cord. And use of the On/Off switch is instinctive and comfortable. In summary: Today's electric mowers are free of the problems of the past. If you have a small to medium-size yard, with handy outdoor electrical outlets, I can confidently suggest that you never need buy a gas-powered mower again. And I can just as confidently suggest that the Black & Decker Model MM1800 would be an excellent choice. June 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by easy as 123 Assembling took me 5 minutes after browsing the manual. Not loud and gets the job done. The only thing I would say is be cognizant of the cord at all times. The manual give a very good illustration of how to cut so as to avoid it. I did recommend it to a few friends. April 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is a breeze to use! Extremely easy to put together out of the box. As a single woman, this couldn't be any more convenient. The body of the mower is light weight, so easy to maneuver and never need to worry about gasoline or oil. Also does a very nice cutting job. Extremely happy with this product. June 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it! The mower was easy to put together. It's also really easy to use - you just plug it in pull the handle up and go. No fighting with pull cords, spark plugs or running out of gas. I have a huge yard so It takes a long time to cut when I let grow too high but it still works good. It also works well on leaves - I used it recently to mulch all the leaves in the yard to avoid having a yard service clean them. December 15, 2013
