I purchased this mower in August of 2010, and it has given great service, so much so that I've recommended it to family and friends. Our yard is fairly large, so I bought an extra battery at the beginning. Over the next three years, finishing the yard even with two fully charged batteries was tough, so I bought an additional one in summer 2014.
The main issues have been poor quality in some design elements. Within the first few weeks, the safety flap on the back of the deck began to tear loose. I replaced it, and the problem quickly repeated itself, so I simply cut it off. This may be an issue of pulling the mower backwards too often, but it's impossible not to do that and the safety flap ought to be sturdy enough to take it.
A bigger problem showed up last summer when I began to notice a lot of give in the right side of the handle. Eventually, a section of the lower handle actually pulled out of the housing. We limped through the end of the mowing season trying not to push it too hard. When I began taking it apart this year to figure out the problem, I discovered that the handle had sheared off about halfway down the angled portion--almost hacksaw clean on some surfaces (see photos). The break occurred around the hole drilled through the shaft, and a height-adjustment spring is also attached to the right side lower handle shaft, so it gets some more stress. But that seems like unacceptable materials quality to me. I have an order in for a replacement lower handle ($16 with shipping), and I'll add another review I can get everything back together.
If someone from Black and Decker is reading this: four and a half seasons of use and the handle breaks...seriously??

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Seattlemom Exactly what I needed!
I finally decided to upgrade from the reel mower that I've been using for years. I love that I can mow my yard without breathing in gas fumes, and that I'm not attached to a cord. My first mow was through some pretty overgrown grass, and although I had to take a couple passes over it, the mower did great and my lawn looks beautiful. It is pretty heavy (especially coming from a reel!) and my yard is really bumpy, so I think I'll eventually regret not spending that extra money for the self-propelled model... but I'm happy for now. And I love that I can fold the handles down to fit the mower into a tight spot in my small garage!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by tradrgym Second one, Fit my needs perfectly
Strong points include easy height adjustment, no fooling with gas or oil, and consistent instant trouble free operation. This is my second B/D electric mower. After 7 years the first one has nearly worn out so it was probably about the same price to buy a new one versus fixing wheels, blade, skirt and a new battery. I have a premier grass lawn and also several larger areas that are heavy weeds. This unit handles either with ease. Although 70, I still like the exercise of a push mower, so that is not an issue.

I looked at a number of electric mowers, and this one is the only model I found that had everything I was looking for. Its a good size mower and is extremely easy to use. It might look in the pictures like it would be a heavy machine, but its actually very light and handles very well. Its easy as can be to switch out batteries for larger mows, I bought an extra battery for that purpose. Its also nice that it easily collapses to fit in an out-of-the-way place in my garage. All in all, I'm quite pleased.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kathryn61 Love this electric workhorse
When I had a smaller yard I had a lighter, quieter, green mower. Now that I have 1/2 an acre I needed to step up my mowing game but still wanted a rechargeable electric. I've had the Black and Decker for 2 months and it does everything I want it to do. I can get the whole yard done on one charge and it makes a nice wide and even swath through the yard.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chrisInNj Topped my expectations for an electric mower
Many positive reviews led me to purchase one of these. It had its maiden voyage in possibly the worst conditions as described in the manual: tall grass 12-15" high and moderately damp after a spring shower. I figured, however, that if the mower couldn't handle a bit of stress then it wouldn't be worth the effort to keep using it. (That and I couldn't wait any longer to tackle the jungle growing in our yard -- but I would otherwise be cautious about running an electric device in wet conditions.)
The mower surpassed my expectations. It took down the tall grass with two passes, and the battery lasted long enough to cut about 3,000 sq ft of yard. I recharged for about two hours and did one more run at a lower height setting to finish. I appreciate the height adjustment, which is very easy to use.
It is a bit heavy and difficult to maneuver at turns, so I would not recommend it for tight yards. The handle padding is also a little thin, so I would consider adding another layer for comfort. But the mower is quiet, starts easily (push button) and has none of the mess of oil/gas. It cuts fairly well and is sturdy despite being made of plastic. Can't speak to the longevity of the product yet - but I would be happy with at least four mowing seasons.
All in all a good purchase!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jared Great mower for suburban-sized lawns!
As an atmospheric scientist, I wanted a zero-emissions lawn mower, and this was the best of the battery-powered, cordless lawn mowers that I looked at. I bought this lawn mower in September 2014 when my wife & I bought our first house. I used it several times before winter arrived in Colorado, and it worked great for me. The weight is quite manageable for me, and the low sound levels (compared to a traditional gas mower) are a huge plus. It's also quite easy to fold it up for winter storage (just be sure to keep your battery plugged in at all times when the mower is not in use). The one thing I found a bit annoying was getting the arms to lock in place, but that was mostly my fault for failing to tighten a couple screws enough. I'm glad I bought this lawn mower, and would recommend it to others with suburban-sized lawns.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rich000 Does a great job, exceeds 1/3 acre rating
So far so good. I have a half acre, most of which is mowed with my riding mower, but I still need a walk behind to get around the house perimeter, and between a large number of pine trees and other obstacles. These locations are too awkward for the rider to reach. Nevertheless, I wanted to see just how long this would last on a full charge. As it turns out I was able to mow my entire half acre, with the power starting to drop off only at the very end. No earplugs needed with this one. A battery gauge would be good, but you can tell by listening for the most part.
