Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ID4I Trimmer works great with Lithium Ion battery
Purchased this trimmer because I didn't want the hassle of a cord being dragged around my large lot. Also, didn't want the maintenance problems faced with a gas/oil engine. This battery powered trimmer meets my needs.

The Black and Decker 20-volt lithium-ion trimmer has exceeded my expectations. Almost straight from the box I was up and going, just the handle and the trimmer guard have to be assembled - no tools required. A full charge on the battery and this thing can match up with the 2-cycle it just replaced, with no mixing, choking, or pull starting. Very light weight and a dream to use.
I would very much recommend this product.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by daveb714 Better trimmer than I thought a rechargeable would be.
The trimmer was easy to assemble and once the battery was charged it was ready to go. The battery seemed to take longer to charge than I thought it would take but it was not an unreasonable time. I have only used gas power string trimmers before so I didn't know what to expect from this. For a rechargeable unit, this had better power than I thought it would but not quite as much as a gas powered unit. The trimmer did a good job trimming grass but I suspect it might have a harder time with heavier weeds and brush which a gas powered unit can get through. The trimmer head is reversible and has a wheel on it so the unit can be used for edging. Converting to edging mode was easy and it did a good job edging my lawn but it did require me to be careful to stay along the edge. The battery life is about an hour so if you have extensive yard work to do, this might not last long enough so you might want to consider a second battery. Overall, this trimmer does a good job for grass and other light trimming.

Assembly was done in less that 5 minutes. After a lot of research I decided with the 20V X2 which is actually the new 40V. I highly recommend the fast charger pn L2AFCBST. Got me an extra battery on EBay just in case, but the original battery lasted for 1 hr. and 25 min on the low level. My second battery (fully charged) lasted for 55 min on the level 2. I'm very glad I made this purchase. No mixing gas and oils, no dragging chords. Don't hesitate, if wondering on gas or cordless.... If you are researching, yes you will see minor negative reviews. Don't know how others treat their tools. If I spend over 50 dollars I baby my tools. Any tool out there if is well taken care of it sure will last. I'm writing this review after 6 months of purchased date because I wanted to make sure of it's performance. Oh, and the power on level 2, is there. Hope this review helps others when looking into a cordless. God Bless!

I love this edger. After 4 months of ownership, the battery failed. Had to be replaced through the warranty process. Took a couple of weeks to locate my receipt. Then the battery was on back order, which tells me they are having production problems with this new 20v battery. Took 2 more weeks to reroute a battery from a different distribution site to me. So after 6 weeks I have it working again. I just love it. Just wished the battery was more reliable. But the next time it croaks, I'll have the receipt ready and if it is backordered, I and the repair center will know to find one somewhere else in the country and get it to me in a more timely manner.

Excellent tool. Really does the job. Rotating head for edging is a big plus; guide wheel is a big help. I still haven't figured out how the automatic line feed knows when to kick in, but it does. Better than a bump feed. Battery has never run down on me yet. Recharges quick; probably won't ever use my gas trimmer again.

I am old enough to be suspicious of battery tools, so in that regard I tend to be a late adopter. Each time I do get one I am pleasantly surprised, and so it is with this string trimmer.
This model seems to use hardly any metal yet the plastics used seem to be very heavy duty and gives it the appearance of a quality product. I expected the lithium battery to be heavy, but it is only a small fraction of the weight of the tool, which has a well balanced feel.
It isn't a light weight, I think it may be heavier than my old and long dead corded trimmer. However the advantage of not having a cord easily makes up for the extra weight.
Assembly was easy, except for the shield which jammed before reaching the correct position. By removing it and trying again with one smooth push it slid all the way into position to be locked by a screw.
The battery life of 'up to' one hour exceeds my endurance, and the five to ten hour recharge time gives me an excuse to avoid excessive gardening!
If this review seems negative, that is not intended. I am delighted with this trimmer. It feels well engineered and exactly fits my needs.

I have a "thing" for string trimmers, and over the years I've accumulated a plethora of the tools, always with the hope that "THIS one will be the ONE." You know-- the one that works properly, doesn't lose power, doesn't have a cord to trip over, has a feeder spool that doesn't jam up, etc. The technology of the trimmers has improved over the years, but I still was finding my choices lacking. Until I got this Black & Decker 20 volt lithium cordless trimmer.
This trimmer has everything I was looking for, and more. Number one, it was ridiculously simple to set up-- five minutes tops, including a run through the instructions. And though the initial charging of the lithium battery is 6-10 hours (ugh), you can leave the battery on its charger in between uses-- a huge plus.
The spool is a single line auto feed that actually feeds-- no "bumping" (read smashing of the trimmer head on the ground) needed. The shaft adjustment is very easy to handle, and the trimmer is extremely light and easy to maneuver around plants, under rails, etc. I especially like B&D's additrion of the wheel, for use in edging, to keep the head at a level position as you roll down the sidewalk. And this trimmer also features something I'd not seen before-- a switch that allows you to chose between higher power for those thicker brush areas, or a "run-time" mode, which reduces the power a bit to extend your cutting time-- and I have to say the run-time mode power is more than sufficient for most folks' home lawn trimming needs.
The only way Black & Decker could make this the "perfect" trimmer would be to make it operate on its own...
