Answer:
Yes, I have another Black and Decker 18 v battery that works with it that didn't come with it. The one that came with it is black and orange colored and the other one I have is all black but it still works. The battery is the slide in kind.

Answer:
The battery from an 18 volt B&D weed wacker I bought several years ago fits this hedge trimmer, so as long as your other batteries are B&D they should work.

Answer:
Hi eedanswer.
Thank you for your question.
This particular style of Black & Decker unit can only handle the 18-Volt Ni-Cad Battery. The lithium batteries are too hot for the electronics of this unit even though they are the same voltage.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Happy Holidays.

Customer Reviews

22 in. 18-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Hedge Trimmer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Skeptical - but a believer! First, I am a weekend warrior to the N'th degree. I rarely write reviews for products, but I wanted to for this product for anyone hesitant to buy cordless. I was weary of a battery hedger, but this thing did the job for the 30 minutes I needed at least....I was waiting for the charge to dissapear but there is still juice in there. Granted, I don't know how well the battery will perform over the years, but on first try, it was more than I needed. On a side note, I bought a B&D blower with the same battery and was equally impressed - and I can leverage both batteries if nessesary. Long story short..this is a great product. If you see negative reviews it's because someone had wildly false expectations or just got a lemon! Buy and enjoy the cordless experience!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets er' dun! I think this is a great tool. Especially if your expectations are in line with what you are buying. I originally purchased the Model # HH2455 which is a less expensive corded model. I took that one right back after a couple close calls of cutting the cord and having to lug it around the yard. The cordless feature makes ease of use excellent and the fact that I have a BD edger/trimmer that uses the same battery makes it great for me. I will always have plenty of juice to get my yard done. If you have a lot of trees and no additional batteries, you may not want to buy this tool, but if you have a reasonable amount of trees and dont need more than 30 minutes to cut them, this tool should work well for you. Im pleased with it and wont be taking this one back to the store!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great trimmer This is a great trimmer for your average hedge job. It doesn't eat through the niCad batteries like the other B&D cordless products, and the cordless electric convenience saves time. I'd give it a good dollar value as well, despite the shortcomings of niCad technology. I've used this for 2 years now. Be sure to keep the blades oiled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Around the House Trimming Needs This is my favorite go-to trimmer. I use it to cut down small ornamental grasses, trim bushes and hedges. My only wish was that the battery lasted longer. It allows me to perform many tasks that I used to rely on my husband to do with a gas powered trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great vineyard tool! The 18-volt hedge trimmer is a great tool for summer hedging and skirting of grapevines, and for pre-pruning during the dormant season. It's very easy to wield, and is fairly lightweight. I got three years' of use out of my first B&D trimmer, using it year-round. Unfortunately, it was nearly impossible to find a replacement 18-volt trimmer (NiCad batteries), since it has been discontinued in favor of the 20-volt lithium battery model. Since I already had a collection of 18-volt batteries and a quick-charger, I wasn't ready to go to the lithium-powered model. I was able to locate one of the last remaining NiCad units online from Home Depot, so I hope it lasts and performs as well as my first trimmer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Buy the best tool for your needs... Obviously if you have hundreds of feet of hedge, a battery powered unit may not meet your needs. On the other hand, if you already own several Black and Decker yard tools like I do and consequently have several 18-volt batteries and chargers at your disposal, you could get several hours of use from this trimmer. For my needs, about 30 minutes worth of trimming perhaps 4 or 5 times a year, this tool is a lot easier to use than a corded trimmer and will be ideal. The $40 surcharge to get a battery powered unit is well worth it to me to not to have to set up, drag around and re-coil a hundred foot cord all the time. Oh, and the thought of chopping a 110 volt live cord in the midst of my trimming isn't too appealing. I've seen a lot of spliced cords in my day and wonder what excitement caused them to have to be spliced. Those who expect more than 45 minutes worth of trimming with a battery powered unit like this have unrealistic expectations unless they have spare batteries and charges as I have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't jam Every trimmer I have owned prior to this one has jammed, even the gas ones. This trimmer doesn't jam. It will even cut small tree limbs. The battery life is excellent. This is the best hedge trimmer I have owned.
