The manual says leaving it plugged it will not harm it, but is 7 months too long.

Answer:
I read the same thing, like you,I don't like the idea of leaving it plugged in for extended times. I have two batteries and two chargers, I will be charging once for the winter, then unplugging. I planned on contacting Black & Decker support to verify best method.

Answer:
If you have the garage space and outlet space, I would leave it plugged in. Otherwise periodically charge it every 2-4 weeks during winter to keep it fully charged and maximize the life.

Answer:
I would bring it indoors and maybe charge it once a month or every other month.
Lithium batteries seem to keep a charge longer as long as they don't freeze.
This is what I have done with my 18 volt cordless drill batteries and they are on their 4th year and still strong.

Answer:
I just purchased mine this summer, and like you I read the manual on the battery. I am going to unplug mine anyway, if for no other reason than it will make feel more comfortable. Have also decided to store the battery in the house as my garage gets pretty cold. So in the end I have not been much help, so good luck.

Answer:
It does. I use any 40V B&D battery charger and is charges it perfectly. I have other B&D batteries for other devices and they all work interchangeably.

Yes, however, be sure to verify when you order that it includes a battery and charger. If Priced below $100.00 most likely does not come with Battery and charger/

The corded 24" trimmer has a lock feature on the trigger so you don't have to hold it down the entire time. Does this one have that feature?

Love my hedgeHog 24" trimmer, but a pain to get around all the shrubs with an extension cord. I love the feature of not having to hold the trigger down when running it. Was hoping this one had that feature

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 140 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Power, handling and convenience! I liked mine so much, I bought one for my Dad and one for My Father-in-law for Father's day. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hedges be gone This is a great hedger that is really easy to use. Cuts through small bushes easily to make your landscape looking great! The battery charges really quickly and it comes with a charger. It uses a 40v battery and it has enough juice to get me through my gardening every time. I don't have too many bushes to trim, but I never have any issues with changing the battery. I won't cut through larger branches as described in the manual. Not heavy at all. Great tool for the garden. September 29, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase Light, powerful, and easy to use. Cuts and handles very well. September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really delivers Not much to add to previous reviews. I bought this to replace an old B&D corded hedge trimmer. I was pleased with the power of this unit. It cut through half-inch branches with no problem. I've only used it a couple of times, but the convenience of cordless is great. Whether this would have the durability for heavy duty (commercial) use is not clear to me, but for the few times a year that I use it, it should be great. Hopefully the battery will continue to carry a good charge -- that can be the downside of cordless tools that are not used very frequently August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected I was looking for a cordless hedge trimmer and was deciding between a 20/25 volt product and a 40 volt product. My concern was primarily weight, and battery stamina. I ended up deciding on a 40 volt model and narrowed it down to three brands. After reading reviews and checking on the weight of each, I decided upon the Black and Decjker. I've used it several times since my purchase and am very satisfied with it. I did all my trimming (medium size residential single family home) and did not run out of battery power. And the weight was no problem . I experienced no fatigue due to the weight. My neighbor has the 20 volt B&D hedge trimmer and loves it. I opted for the 40 volt for the extra $25 in cost. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best hedge trimmer on the market. There was no assembly required on the B&D hedge trimmer. Just took it out of the box {fully assembled}, plugged in the charger, put the battery in the charger and it was fully charged within twenty four hours. Easy to use. The weight was balanced and the blade was sharp. I used it on my hedges and the hedge trimmer did exactly what B&D said it would. You can not go wrong with this purchase. I have several B&D power tools and have never been disappointed. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love this trimmer! The lightweight feature (no cord or big electric motor) make yardwork fun again for my 72-yr. old arthritic shoulders! It's every bit as good as our corded trimmer--and I don't have to stop and rest! Love it! August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Light Weight Wonder Have used my new trimmer twice and it really did a better job than I expected for a battery powered tool. It is light weight, which is great for an older woman (me) who does her own yard work. Cuts smoothly and will saw through small branches easily. My yard has a lot that needs constant trimming and I only recharged the battery once it runs really long on one charge. August 24, 2016
