Great value for the price. It's lightweight and very powerful. The only downfall is the battery life. It runs out before I finish the entire yard (even when I use it on the lowest setting).

We have a B-D 24-Volt string trimmer with Ni-Cad batteries which my wife really likes. The charger failed (full charge cut-off died) and cooked the batteries. Bought this 40-Volt unit expecting even better performance. Oddly it doesn't seem to have the power of the old piece. Trimming is fair but when used in the edging mode it doesn't do nearly as well.
I bought new guts to rebuild the old 24V batteries and a new charger and now the Boss Lady is happy. We'll be returning this 40V trimmer. It would do if you have nothing else but we were disappointed.

Length be adjusted for short arms and short height user. Also you don't have to pull line out by hand after the old tap feed system stopped working. The best part is the ease of battery removal for which a large hand was needed in my old trimmer. The battery in this one slides easily into and out of a slot. No large grip required. Only had this a few weeks. The machine cuts well and has enough power to cut our nasty tough Eastern Washington invasive weeds. No idea about battery life yet but an hour of cutting does not run down the battery. 4 stars for not knowing whether battery will live more rhan a year.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lady1 The greatest!
I live on a hill in the Hill Country on mostly rock. It is impossible to use a lawn mower. My husband is not able to help me now so I had to get something I could easily start. I have about an acre that I keep trimmed...grass and then dried wildflowers. This is the greatest string trimmer. I purchased an extra battery and worth it because I can do most of the property in one morning. Before when I used a gas trimmer I had to stop and reload the string. This trimmer shoots out the line without tapping it...wonderful. Further, because we get drought periods (like now) I don't use a trimmer every week and then had to pour out the old gas and replace it.
I've also purchased the B&D 20V chain saw for trimmer....also a great item. Oh by the way, I am 79.

Very simple to assemble. Easy to operate and I like the ease of extending the length of the shaft. Used it to clear overgrown brush. It worked well and I was able to cover a large area. The battery ran long enough for my arms. This trimmer was a good buy.

Love this edger / trimmer. So easy to use. I am single Mom - lost my job - had to improvise with a lot of things. Never thought I would do my own lawn. But heck I am doing it and it is fun thanks to the 40-Volt Electric Cordless Straight Shaft String Trimmer. Highly recommend this product!!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by usagirl70 Best weed trimmer ever had
This is the greatest trimmer. It's as simple as pushing a button and starts right up! The battery lasts quite awhile and haven't had any problems with it losing its charge. I can weed the front, back and side yard non-stop and it still has a good charge left. I'm 5'5 and my husband is 6' and we can both use it easily by adjusting the length of the handle. My husband has done a lot of landscaping work and said this trimmer is the easiest he's ever used. He'll never go back to a gas or electric trimmer again.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hanauma Difficult to use
To start, one must simultaneously depress two levers. This is very hard to do if you have smaller hands. I have started it successfully, but continue to have difficulty and sometimes just give up out of frustration.
