It took minimal time to charge up these batteries. Worked like a charm!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Andy Work fine
These batteries are rated with higher Amp-Hr than the 36 Volt (previous version). By my usage, they last exactly the same amount of time -- there is no difference. The 40V batteries work just fine in 36V tools. The 40V seems to be another marketing ploy, replacing "maximum voltage" with "operational voltage". Since 40V is greater that 36 V, it must be a good deal, right? So, you'll be more likely to buy exactly the same thing.... However, these batteries work just fine; I have all three B&D tools that use these batteries, and five batteries that drive all of them -- more than enough for any yard work that I do at any given time.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Yardcrazy2016 Keeps a charge
The batteries do keep a long charge so far. But was very disappointed that there was no charger included with batteries. It is very hard to keep the batteries charged on the charger that came with the weed eater.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Al Black & Decker 40-volt Batteries
These batteries are very good and perform as advertised. My main hope is that will have a longer
life than original battery that came with my Black & Decker Edger.

These batteries do NOT last as long as the 36 volt. I've had two of these, purchased this year, stop working. They would not take a charge. One never would take a charge. The other one was charged once and would not take a charge after that.
I have several 36 volt batteries for Black and Decker tools. I've had them for over three years and they still work very well.

Only two stars because I have three of these batteries and they only lasted a year before they began to not charge fully. So, I am actually buying more because I don't see any other option. I will have to plan to buy a new two pack every year.

This is really a 36-volt Li-Ion battery but only able to charge to 40-volt max. Yet, that is the trend for the industry so that is that. Even I think it is a bit overpriced if you just considering the actual battery cost, but each pack still has complex electronics for charging and safety so I cannot complain much. In short, it provide consistent results for the tools design for that and charging has no issue. You'll need at least two batteries for those tools anyway.
