Can it run without being plugged in? How long would it run if possible?

Asked by: BigJawz
This unit does not have an internal battery. It will not operate without being hooked up to an external battery.

Powering up a laptop and projector

So I am wanting to take my car to certain places in town, pull up and power up my laptop and Projector and what's known as projector bombing on blank walls for Charities that I am involved with. I have never down this from my car and have a limited budget. If I have my vehicle running and everything plugged in, will I have success or problems? I need help.......
Asked by: Markymark
You should be fine as long as the combined wattage consumption of the laptop and projector do not exceed 500 watts. I don't believe you will have any problems with this set-up.

The price online was very good and delivery was quick and free. I've mounted it in my camper to recharge ski boot heater batteries and power a small vac. Exactly what I was looking for!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True world test's performed! I picked the inverter up to test a few things and see what I could run and for how long. Let me first say this is a great inverter for the money. I have had it hooked to a 12v car battery for over 4 hours without recharge and did many things with it and it never dipped below 12v. I had a 360watt peek radio hooked to it the whole time at a good level so I say about 200watts is what it was pulling. I charged my cell phone from dead to full. I charged 2 Ryobi 18v batteries from dead to full 80 watts. A stream light flash light and extra battery 10watts and my laptop from dead to full it pulls around 100watts. The inverter fan has been running to keep it cool and the battery is still over 12v after 4 hours of straight use. This was a real world test and this product passed!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does what it was made to do I have owned this inverter for almost a year now, and it has worked great. I have used it to charge and run electronics on long family trips. I ran a large fan while watching fireworks in a heat wave. It also runs my string trimmer when hooked directly to the car battery. The inverters fan only runs when the unit it connected to the car battery, not when using the lighter plug. Some electronics don't like a modified square wave and some do- you have to test them out. This is a handy, compact unit that does what is was designed to do, and I recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use it for my solar setup, hasn't had a single issue! I was very suspicious about how well this would preform for the first few days, as it looks kind of cheap in my opinion. Once I got used to it, I started trying heavier loads, and could run whatever I want that was under 500 watts. This is a great, cheap option for me as I am using this as an off-grid application. It powers anything I need it to besides a standard electric heater. It's also pretty water-resistant. I left it out where it can get wet one night and it worked fine the next day. I can even run a 750 watt wet/dry vac for about a minute to pick up some junk before it shuts off on me. Don't do this much, or it will burn out the inverter, I can guarantee you that. Many nights, I forget to turn off the inverter, and it doesn't waste but up to 0.1 volts of my battery bank, if that! This is designed to minimize radio interference, so it won't interfere with radio/TV stations you're enjoying as much at all. To calculate watts, multiply amps by volts. For example, 120V AC * 0.1 amps is 12 watts. If your thing is over 95 watts, switch to the 500 watt option. The fan only runs when there is a big load on it and it needs to run, to the people who think it is broken! It works fine and doesn't present any issues until you start getting into the big things, like a fridge, washer/dryer, or heater. An A/C works fine on it if you get a really good, efficient one, though. Good luck to you all, and I hope this review helped!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did Not Work I bought this for camping and the first time we put it to work when we was at camp it started working good for about 1 hour the cooling fan would turn on and work fine. but after that for about 5 minutes into being powered on it would shut down, not after awhile into trying to make it work we noticed that the fan did not turn on at all anymore and that would cause it to heat up and shut down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good buy for the price So far, so good. I bought this to take with the family on a camping trip. I like the fact that you can plug it in inside the car for small needs, and to the battery for larger needs. I've used it on two trips, both times to blow up an air mattress for the tent. First time, it did it just attached inside to the outlet, but the second time, it would not do it until I attached it to the battery. Then it worked like a charm and much faster with the greater power than before. Wish it wasn't made in China, but for the price, was an excellent deal, as long as it keeps working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works just fine! I purchased this unit, hooked it up directly to my car battery and plugged in a fan turned on high speed... worked like it's supposed to. ( Vornado fan rated at 120V & 1.4 Amps.) If your car battery is below a certain level the inverter will kick out automatically so as not to run your battery down below a safe level for starting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best minor investment i have made in a while I bought this inverter for a 13 hour car Trip for the Kids. I looked around allot between other ones but for the price and the Brand i chose this one since i have had only good experience with Black & Decker. I had a 25" monitor and a Nintendo Wii U running for a solid 12 Hours over the cigarette plug. The fan ran the entire time. The only time it starting giving me warning noise was when we where sitting still in Traffic and we had the AC running at max. After we started driving again the Alarm went away. After a while we used the USB port to charge an I phone 5 at the same time everything else was still running with no issues at all! I never used the 500W option since the unit worked great for what i needed but its nice to know that it should work just fine judging by other reviews. The car was a Honda Odyssey LX i used the rear Plug with 2 extension Cords to get the power where i needed it. This inverter definitely made the Trip easier for the kids and also for me. I did double check via the internet how much the WII and the monitor used in Watts before i bought the unit.
