Rated 1.9 out of 5 by 45 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by plastic gear does'nt last and possibly melted/overheated that cause the belt to break Look around online. This machine has a design flaw that will waste your money. The motor is connected to the drive shaft with a belt between two cogs. One cog is metal, the other is nylon. When stressed, the nylon cog melts. How much could that cost to replace? It is only available as part of the motor assembly for $65 or more, and the problem will remain. Only if part is available I would consider recommending to friends and keep this. Look elsewhere. Good power and ergodynamics will not make up for poor engineering and planned obsolescence. Spend more, get something that will last. March 27, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay away from any B & D Electric Trimmers This is the type of product that gives American companies a bad name. I have been through 2 of their products and never again. The product is designed to fail. The problems are all connected to the spool mechanism. Line doesn't feed properly whether you buy replacement spools or buy line separately. Line gets jammed in the side or the feed goes through yards of strings once a minute. Don't plan on more then a year of use before you have to replace it. Horrible product. I follow directions and do all proper maintenance on all my tools. My lawn mower and snow blower are both 10 years old and run like new. Spend the money and buy quality. July 7, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by terrible product I'm glad I bought the extended warranty because the first one only lasted a few months and the motor burnt out. The replacement 2nd one used an entire spool of line to cut about a 6 ft. square lawn; the first one had eaten way more line than it should have also but did better than the 2nd trimmer. Even replacing with a new spool only resulted in it throwing out a foot or more of line repeatedly which then raps around the head and stops working. I spent more time unsnarling the line, cutting it shorter and/or rewrapping the one side that was way longer than the other than I did cutting grass. The 2nd one is going back and I'll buy anything but this brand again. August 7, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Black and Decker should remove this from their product line. I should have read the reviews before purchasing this product which deserves NO stars. I only used it twice - once at the end of the season 2012 and now the first time in 2013. Both times it would work for 6 - 8 feet, jam, and then "eat" the line. After only 2 uses on a small yard it has gone through 3 spools. It's over 90 days since purchase so I cannot even take it back for an exchange. What an abosulute waste of good money. Black and Decker should stop making this product and remove existing inventory from the shelves. In addition, the Home Depot staff must stop recommending it to unsuspecting buyers. March 23, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by PURE JUNK I AM A VERY ACTIVE SENIOR CITIZEN WHO OUTWORKS MANY OF MY NEIGHBORS IN THE YARD. 20+ YEARS OF DOING EVERYTHING MYSELF QUALIFIES ME AS AN EXPERIENCED OPERATOR OF YARD WORK EQUIPMENT. I PURCHASED THIS B & D PIECE OF JUNK AFTER MY OLD (6 YEARS) IRON SIDES B&D DIED. WHAT A JOKE AND DISAPPOINTMENT THIS "HIGH PERFORMANCE" THING IS. INITIALLY, IT FELT POWERFUL, BUT IT ATE THE STRING THAT WAS LOADED ON THE SPOOL IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES. THE COST OF STRING ALONE WOULD JUSTIFY HIRING SOMEONE TO DO THE WORK FOR ME. TOO BAD I WAITED TOO LONG TO RETURN IT. NOW I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE NEXT TRIMMER WILL BE.. July 1, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by After four months of weekly use, it is still going strong/ I purchased this model of string trimmer because of its power rating, the metal head on it and its price, I've had this trimmer for six months and use it every week to trim around my large front lawn and back yard and have no issues with it feeding too much string. Mine is still using the factory installed string and reel, with plenty of string left in it still. Was I lucky and purchased one that works correctly? Maybe, but mine uses less string than a much more expensive one it replaced and is more powerful, too! Unable to comment as to how long it will last because it is a recent purchase. August 28, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worthless The wire feed mechanism jams continuously and the time it takes to rethread the string is time consuming and aggravating. The wire, when it's not jamming, wears out quickly and is expensive to replace. I ended up throwing the spool head away and rigging a static wire holder of my own that worked far better than B & D's rotten design, but it was dangerous to use - no guard. Thirty years ago, B & D had a weed eater that fed from a spool located at the handle, down a capillary line. When the string broke (it never jammed) you simply fed it centrifugally from a trigger near the spool. It worked, but I guess B & D saw more profit in replacement spool sales and did away with it. Sad and disgusting. August 12, 2012
