8 in. Cordless Chainsaw-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for. This is light weight which was my main requirement. From reading reviews I knew to also order a battery but was dumbfounded when the saw and battery arrived but no battery charger. To me it was a little like buying a car and being surprised but accepting that you had to separately buy the engine but then to find you also separately had to buy a key was really too much. You are going to need the battery and charger, why not put it all together and charge more? I am also not sure of the oiling system. I worry that the oil is not getting to the right places, consistently. But it does the job I wanted it to do and overall I am happy with it. Can cut up kindling and small diameter fire wood.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good little saw in need of a few improvements Why did it take so long to come up with the idea of a battery powered chain saw? PROS: I love NOT having to store unleaded gas that goes bad if it is not used up, mixing oil, and hoping that my old gas powered saw will run when I need it. Don't be fooled by the 8 inch bar.. I cut thru a 14 inch red oak log with it by cutting from opposite sides. Smaller branches and limbs 6 inches and smaller are cut easily and almost as quickly as with a small gas saw. The chain width is fairly narrow so it does not have to remove a lot of wood when cutting limbs. The see thru window on the bar oil reserve and the built in bar adjusting tool holder is a nice touch. I am very impressed that Black and Decker wrote right on the box "you can try it for thirty days and if you do not like it bring it back". CONS: I like the saw but I am not completely pleased with it. I highly recommend buying an extra battery pack or two to do any serious clean up cutting as the battery does not last long and it takes 8 hours to recharge the battery pack. Having an extra pack will double your cut time and if you do not finish with the first battery pack you will not have to wait 8 hours to finish the the job. That one 14 inch red oak log cut I made used up all the juice from 2 battery packs. Note to Black and Decker; a faster charging 24 or 36 volt pack which would last longer and have more power. I did not give 5 stars on quality because the chain cutting teeth should alternate with a right chisel cut and then a left chisel cut. The chain on my saw has two left chisel cutters in a row apparently where the chain was connected together. Because of the two in a row left teeth, the chain pulls out to one side when making the cut. This causes the chain to chatter and grab during the cut. It also causes the cut to be rough and wider than it need be. This causes extra drag on the chain and wastes battery juice. If they needed to go to a 7, 9 or 10 inch bar to correct the cutting teeth line up they should have. I hope to find a bar and chain of some other size that will fit the saw and fix the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent light duty saw The 8" cutting bar is bigger that you would think. After adding some oil and slapping on an 18v battery (not included) I was cutting through 7" and 8" pine braches with ease. Larger stuff I was able to cut through with no problem by cutting wedges around the log. The saw is very light and very quiet too. I am very pleased with this purchase and have recommended this to my friends and neighbors!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little saw I have a variety of B&D 18v tools. Nice idea they all use the same battery, so I have plenty of Batteries & chargers. So far none have disappointed me. This little saw beats using a hand saw. It's not meant for big projects & heavy limbs, but for the average guy with a small yard of projects, this will do just fine, as with the other 18v yard tools. The only thing I recommend is NOT to fill the oil bottle for the auto oiler. All the oil will leak out & make a mess. It doesn't regulate small amounts periodically to lubricate, so just keep it clean & manually lube the chain & bar as needed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Light Duty This product is not meant for any real chain saw work. The battery dies very quickly. I have extra batteries so it is slightly more bearable, but overall it is a very weak product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cordless Chainsaw I currently have three other Black and Decker cordless products so didn't have to by the battery this time. Great for backyard cleanup and light duty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Black&Decker 18v Cordless Chain Saw Very nicely engineered product. I was happy to find that my 18v Fire Storm Ni Cad batteries are compatible. The saw has plenty of power to cut right through small to medium tree branches. Battery life is about 20 minutes of continuous cutting at maximum load. My batteries have been in service for a few years, so newer batteries may yield better results. I'm quite satisfied with the product. It does what I expected it to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good compact saw This isn't the most powerful saw, of course, but I give it five stars because it does exactly what is expected. Cuts easily through downed branches 2" to 6" in diameter, and possibly even bigger. It's also lightweight enough to occasionally use one-handed (NOT recommended by the manufacturer, for obvious reasons). The one I bought at the store came with battery and charger, but not on-board oiler (the price was higher).
