Customer Questions & Answers

can u show me the diagram of the motor?

Asked by: dorcus
Unless you can find a metal replacement for the sprocket, I'd recommend getting a new trimmer. Most likely you're asking because yours did what they all do--melt the plastic drive sprocket. Don't bother fixing it unless you can find a metal sprocket to replace it.

Grasshog XP 14 in. 7.2 Amp String Trimmer-DISCONTINUED is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 131.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a terrible product There is plenty of power in this unit, which is the good news. The bad news is the head is horribly designed, impossible to load and at times comes apart while trimming. I do not dispute that some people had good experiences with this trimmer. I did too for a short while. Nonetheless, after loading several times, you will find that the cap that holds the the disk on the head of the unit releases during trimming. Consider yourself lucky if you can find it when that happens. PS, I am very competent with tools, etc. Sadly, this thing is very poorly designed which is why I am on this site looking for a new trimmer. This one is headed to the curb.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Soft plastic gears actually melt with routine use. I my opinion, its was not designed by an engineer, no qualified engineer would use the same plastic used on the case to make the gears. I found the gear actually melted after about 10 minutes of very light duty trimming. They offered to look at it under a recall for the gears, but it would cost me half the units price in gas to drive to the repair center and back. Since others have had the repaired unit break, I am going back to my very old trimmer and avoid this brand when there are other choices available. If you already have this unit, I suggest 10 seconds on and 10 seconds off to keep the temperature of the belt down. Now is that how you want to do your work?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Line hog, not grass hog!!!! It has a two line feed that goes through line faster than you can change it. I usually only get one yard trimming from it before I have to change it plus it leaves broken line around the yard that needs to be picked up. I found myself constantly opening the cover and messing around with the line more than I actually got to use it. I got so frustrate with it that I actually threw it across the yard, picked it up and threw it straight in the trash can. Don't waste your money on this. This is the second grass hog, exchanged the first one after a few uses and had the line eating problem. The second one had the same issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk I would return this piece of junk if I still had the box. It has a two line feed that goes through line faster than you can change it. I usually only get one yard trimming from it before I have to change it plus it leaves broken line around the yard that needs to be picked up. I found myself constantly opening the cover and messing around with the line more than I actually got to use it. I got so frustrate with it that I actually threw it across the yard. Don't waste your money on this. This is the second B&D yard item that I have purchase that didn't even come close to my expectation. I've only used this 3 times and I'm going back to the store to purchase a different brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Design Flaw! I really liked this trimmer at first, though it did eat line like crazy. My wife was trimming for the second season we have used this and the shaft broke. If you read the reviews you see that this has happened to many people. Turns out my neighbor has the identical trimmer and the identical failure. B&D said they would be happy to replace it BUT when they found out ours were 2 months out of warranty they said they wouldn't do anything. So, we are stuck. I understand warranties, no prob, BUT if you have a clear design flaw you fix it past the warranty. Period. I bought a Ryobi this past weekend. If B&D won't stand by their designs I will not be buying their products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Plastic broke, more expensive to fix than to replace I had this trimmer for 2 summers, and it worked well during that time, mostly. I can't say I really thought much about it- seemed like an average trimmer to me. The first day out this summer it broke about 5 minutes into the day. A plastic gear in the housing stripped, and in order to replace this $.50 piece I have to replace the entire motor. The motor, a new drive belt, and shipping, is just barely more expensive that buying a new one (and that's from other online parts providers; the parts are even more expensive from B&D itself). I'm looking forward to purchasing a different model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic in wrong place I used this trimmer lightly, on our typical tract-home postage-stamp sized yard. This thing worked great, right up 'til it broke (which didn't take long). One of the toothed pulleys in the belt drive is plastic. Yes, PLASTIC! (I know, I took it apart!) Pulley gets hot, gets soft, deforms, belt won't stay on. Ever again. There are several good features on this trimmer, all of which are useless once it breaks. It WILL break. Yeah, it looks nice in the store, BUT. IT. IS. JUNK. Avoid it like the plague.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Black & Decker Trimmer Black & Decker 14 In. Grass Hog XP String Trimmer Model GH1000 price: $69.97/ea We owned this trimmer and have gotten quite allot of use out of it. It was not as heavy as other trimmers we have used in the past, which enabled me to do ome of the trimming rather than my husband doing it with a heavier trimmer. It had good power and the only thing I did not like about it was the angle of th arm. I felt it was too sharp an angle to get under some shrubs. Good price for the power and longevity of the trimmer.
