The metal impellers make a world of difference when shredding leaves and small twigs. The only two minor detractions are: 1. The clamp that holds the bottom of the bag closed has too tight a tolerance, and is very hard for my wife to reinstall after emptying the bag. 2. The interior deflector on the bag [which keeps the bag from eroding from the force of the shredded leaves hitting it] deteriorated within 3 bags, and we had to install a home-variant of our own design.
That said, our last model lasted 3 years, failing only due a cracked housing from a fall, and shredded leaves and twigs for our over 20 red and white oak trees each year.!

A friend of mine told me about this leaf hog as he has one himself and when I told him I was looking for one he said to make sure I bought the one with the metal blades. The trees in my yard drop huge amounts of leaves, sticks and acorns. I thought after a short use of this thing that I would be returning it right after using it because it was making such a racket sucking up the leaves, small sticks and acorns I figured the blades were going to be distroyed, upon checking the blades I was amazed, NO damage what so ever! This leaf hog with the metal blades is awesome, the variable speed is nice as well.

I have a gasoline blower, so I did not try the blower function, but the vacuum system worked well. Do not buy a cheaper clone with a plastic fan/mulcher. The only issues that I had were with the bag. Before even using it, I enlarged the V-notch at the end of the bag clip with a Dremel cutting wheel. I had a problem with the loose fabric at the nozzle end inside the bag. It unraveled tying up large wads of leaves twice. After cutting off the second leaf wad, I attempted to flame melt the fabric, which did not work. I finally zip-tied the excess fabric to the nozzle and cut off the fabric extending beyond the nozzle with a Dremel cutting wheel and this solved the problem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tips This product is very good
This leaf blower works very well with the variable speed control for jobs such as sidewalks and matted wet leafs.
The leaf blaster nozzle has a sweeping action good for
sidewalks and the fixed nozzle is good for blasting heavily
matted leafs. Wrapping the power cord around the handle
takes the strain off of the power cord connector. I have not used the leaf vac / mulch attachment. The metal impeller
should hold up well for wear and efficiency. The unit is a bit on the heavy side considering the efficiency and vac /
mulching assembly. Overall the product is excellent. This
item was shipped very quickly.

Amazing unit !!!! I did some serious shopping before I purchased this unit but it is everything and more .....The other brands don't have an attachment that this one offers and that is the blower tip that swings back and forth it saves your arm from swinging side to side as well the power is the best on the market 240mph .....light weight user friendly and its no zipper leaf back is so easy to dump when you bag is full ....the mulcher will not clog and it takes leafs and small twigs with ease !! GREAT UNIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The swivel-head attachment isn't a gimmick; it noticeably improves performance blowing debris from grass. It makes quick work of sycamore bark and leaves, even when slightly wet.
Being able to dial down blower speed makes it easy to blow debris into a 3'x3' pile on concrete, facilitating easy clean up. Every once in a while, my hand accidentally hits the dial, requiring a correction. Not a major ergonomic issue.
The cord retainer is a little awkward, but works.
Unit feels solid. Weight isn't much of an issue using both grips, but I do find myself switching hands once in a while.
I haven't tried the vacuum attachment yet. I'm sure it's best used to clear around shrubbery and hard-to-reach places.

I purchased a previous Black and Decker LeafHog product over 10 years ago. It was and excellent product, performance and great longevity for the price.
The new LeafHog is light weight, great performance and range of power.
Suggestions: Would like it to be a bit lighter, difficult to hold onto for long periods of time. I would change the leaf gathering contraption. It's ackward to put together, hold and use, I personally enjoyed my 10 year old Leafhog for this function better. Too many plastic parts, which can result in breakage, wear out, or no longer functional after a couple of years.

I was looking for an electric blower/vacuum that would shred leaves without choking. I found it with the LeafHog 385. The metal (not plastic) impeller chews through leaves and twigs with a vengence. The collection bag is a big improvement over the zipper styled ones that always jam when leaf matter gets in the zipper teeth. This one has a slide on bar that locks the bag shut and makes emptying easy. Only complaint is that the shoulder strap attached to the bag gets uncomfortable after awhile...wish it had some padding. This purchase exceeded my expectations overall.
