Answer:
A metal working vise? An idea would be to mount the vise to another panel (or slab) of wood to which another piece, such as a 2"x2" was attached on the bottom so as to allow it to clamp it into the workmate. Good place for such a vise is at a corner. An auxiliary top such as that is what this needs for that purpose.

yes, but it would require drilling mounting bolt holes. Do you really want to do that?

Answer:
The Workmate 425 comes with 4 swivel pegs, bench dogs, and I recommend that you purchase more if you will be using the bench more than infrequently.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by My work mate I have used it several times and it is all that I hoped for. the only negative is that the assembly instructions are not clear on placing the top sections into place. they need to be inserted into the frame and then slid backwards because the center and rear piece are removable. this is not clear I watched a U-tube video that was done for the purpose of showing you how to assemble it and that is how I figured it out. Otherwise it is a great purchase. July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Workmate 425 The only problem was the instructions for setup....terrible...had to go online to some videos to figure this out properly! July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase Not too bad to assemble even though very few directions. Needs a safe place ON the bench to store the "key" for adjustments. You've got a problem if you lose that little plastic knob. Other than that, a great product. Would definitely recommend. July 12, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Product Underwhelmed Me I have used a WorkMate 200 for many years, and it is still a very reliable and effective unit. I purchased the WorkMate 425 to complement the 200, but am disappointed in it. The construction is not up to the quality of the 200 - not as robust. One of the aspects I want to make use of is the vertical vice for clamping a larger work surface in place. However, the structure of the vertical vice is not really that strong, and the arrangement makes the unit unbalanced when there is a large extended surface on that side of the unit. The unit is extended on the other side, but the footprint does not provide support for larger parts clamped in the vertical vice. With a heavy wide part clamped in the vertical vice, the unit tends to tip over, so it does not meet that aspect of my purpose in getting it. I also find that the removable top sections come loose too easily and always seem to be in the wrong place - they do not stay in place very well, and I am not sure how long the mountings for them will last - I expect them to give up before very long. I cannot recommend this product at this time - I have had the product about a month, and it is not as suitable to my intended usage as I expected. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A little flimsy but very handy. The workmate 425 was not as sturdy as I thought it would be for the cost but the design is very practical and it is still a very handy tool to have in the garage. July 2, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good old workbench... Still the most versatile Not as good as the old cast aluminum frame version and a bit wobbly. Still, it's the only product like this and has been the go-to workbench since the 80's... Very versatile. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best gift to my son EVER! The work bench was a great choice for my son, who has many projects going on building props, etc. The instructions that came with the work bench were not so great, but he found instructions from someone who posted how to put it together on the internet, which were more helpful. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Am well satisfied with the work bench, once I got it put together. However the instructions were very unclear and frustrating. May 31, 2016
