Could you mount a vice to this somehow?
Asked by: bartle
Yes. You will need to use a clamping vise or attach a vise to a base and clamp it to the 425. You may also want to reference YouTube for additional options. John Taylor offers numerous ideas for the WM 425, one of which is using a vise.

Assembly instructions

Asked by: Becky
Reference You Tube for the instructions demo on the WM 425 or you could contact B & D or go on line for access to these instructions. Fairly simple to assemble. Just take your time.

Added feature of vertical clamping option is a huge plus. Stores compactly and adjustable height also provides extended versatility. Surface table is not as thick as previous models, however, given the nature of the wood (bamboo ??) it should provide ample strength and hardness for most projects and clamping situations. You Tube reference provides numerous options for getting the most out of the WM 425. Highly recommend this product. Once you own one, you'll wonder how you did without it all this time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Eh! Underwhelmed by the product. Drive belt used to have both adjusters work in tandem is poorly engineered.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great design, mediocre materials Quality of WM425 is much less than my 20 yr old original Workmate which is still performing flawlessly. Top panels are 5/8" bamboo plywood. Bamboo is a very hard wood and could have made an excellent top, but 5/8" is way too thin for a work top, mine was 1/16" warped out of a flat plane - unacceptable. One end of the rear slotted panel slides forward if you grip an object at the other end of the jaws - it should be lockable. The assembly instructions are awful and illustrations ridiculously small. Nevertheless, most DIYers should find it a useful and versatile tool.

They were made really well and sturdy. This is not what they were, I'm sure it has something to do with cost. Clamping system is not that great, it's hard to get the holes aligned and will skip to the next hole if the piece you're clamping is uneven. It is also awkward to open up. If you just need a light weight and foldable work surface then it might fit your needs otherwise save you're money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Product with Acceptions Purpose: I needed a bench that would meet the following criteria: * Collapsible to save floor space in my garage * Light to medium duty for projects around the house * Heavy enough to be stable on tough/heavy jobs * Multiple height settings for different size jobs * Horizontal and Vertical clamping capabilities * Sufficient work surface area * Resistant to humidity both; metal and wood * One hand clamping * Reasonable price point (around $100) Selection: There are a number of Workmate models available from simple benches such as the WM125 style to the more complex WM1000 model. After reading the reviews and specifications I realized that the WM425 had the best match for my criteria. Shipping: 5 Stars Shipping was very cost effective at the time and it arrived in just a few days. Packaging: 1 Star The Workmate was shipped in retail display packaging which is insufficient for typical shipping. The package was damaged with the top almost completely ripped off and I cannot fault the carrier as the cardboard was very thin. As a result one of the plastic feet was missing. The retail box should be shipped inside a stronger shipping box as I have seen with other items. Customer Support: 5 Stars Customer Support was very courteous and responsive when I called for the replacement plastic foot that was missing due to poor packaging. The replacement arrived in a few days without item or shipping cost. Assembly: 2 Stars The assembly instructions were very poor. Durability: 5 Stars The bench top is now made of bamboo and not particle board which is sensitive to moisture. All of the metal parts are well painted. So, I do not anticipant any rust or swelling of the bamboo bench top due to the high humidity that can be found in Austin Texas. Overall Rating: 4.5 Stars I have deducted one half star due to the flimsy retail packaging the bench was shipped in resulting in the loss of a plastic foot. This was preventable. Otherwise I am delighted with this bench.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Box in terrible shape, everything in box was loose. This was to be my husbands Christmas. He had this work bench years ago until it broke. He loved bench and wanted another one. Ordered it and was delivered in a torn up, taped up box. I felt that with box in that bad of shape that product was probably not in good shape. I was very disappointed. If you could guarantee that I would get one in much better shape I would reorder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product bad instructions This is a replacement of one I had for many years. I like the linked handle idea so one handle moves the jaws in a parallel way unless you overide it. The tiny little sheet of instructions took two of us engineers a while to figure out. It would be hard to may a whole piece of paper in a box this size. Very pleased with the workmate and prompt delivery for Home Depot

I received mine yesterday and my first concern was, like others have written, the box was pretty smashed up. Also like others, I found the assembly instructions to be sorely lacking and if it were not that I'm pretty good at assembling stuff, I would have been really frustrated. But, when I got finished it worked well and I was pleased. Can't wait to start using it.
