Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lipripper A second set of hands
I am for ever working alone on projects and find I always need another set of hands. The B&D 425 project center has allowed me to work faster and complete the majority of my projects without the help of someone else needed to hold things while I work on them. I have wanted and needed a work center for many years and finally decided to purchase the work center and am very happy I did. The quality of workmanship is far superior than I had anticipated. A very heavy duty piece of equipment and would recommend this product to anyone who finds themselves needing a second set of hands.

This is not half the quality of the workmate I bought almost 30 years ago. I am very disappointed. My old workmate had premium wood clamp decks bolts into steel. I pounded on it, stood on it, through sheet of 3/4 inch plywood on it. In short I worked it hard. It was the best tool I ever bought. I bought this unit online because I could not find it in a store. I would have never bought it had I had a chance to look at it. There are a lot of plastic parts. The deck bolts into plastic and will not tighten up. The deck clamps are cheap plywood. The deck clamp got scratched up during assembly just setting on the frame. The assemble instructions are hard to follow. I will keep it as I need it right now to complete the current job, but I will look for a different brand when the job is done.

I have used it several times and it is all that I hoped for. the only negative is that the assembly instructions are not clear on placing the top sections into place. they need to be inserted into the frame and then slid backwards because the center and rear piece are removable. this is not clear I watched a U-tube video that was done for the purpose of showing you how to assemble it and that is how I figured it out. Otherwise it is a great purchase.

Not too bad to assemble even though very few directions. Needs a safe place ON the bench to store the "key" for adjustments. You've got a problem if you lose that little plastic knob. Other than that, a great product. Would definitely recommend.

I have used a WorkMate 200 for many years, and it is still a very reliable and effective unit. I purchased the WorkMate 425 to complement the 200, but am disappointed in it. The construction is not up to the quality of the 200 - not as robust. One of the aspects I want to make use of is the vertical vice for clamping a larger work surface in place. However, the structure of the vertical vice is not really that strong, and the arrangement makes the unit unbalanced when there is a large extended surface on that side of the unit. The unit is extended on the other side, but the footprint does not provide support for larger parts clamped in the vertical vice. With a heavy wide part clamped in the vertical vice, the unit tends to tip over, so it does not meet that aspect of my purpose in getting it. I also find that the removable top sections come loose too easily and always seem to be in the wrong place - they do not stay in place very well, and I am not sure how long the mountings for them will last - I expect them to give up before very long. I cannot recommend this product at this time - I have had the product about a month, and it is not as suitable to my intended usage as I expected.
