The BRK 9120B 120-Volt AC Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup is designed to install faster, perform better, and be even smarter than before. This alarm is 120-Volt AC inter-connectable (with maximum 18 compatible devices), which lets the alarm be interconnected with up to 12 other compatible smoke alarms and six compatible devices like bells, horns, repeaters, and door closers to network a comprehensive system for your home. If one unit triggers an alarm, all smoke alarms in the series will sound. The 9120B includes an ionization sensor which helps detect fast flaming fires that consume combustible materials rapidly. Answer:
According to the manufacturer, the BRK Model No, 9120B is a suitable replacement for the BRK 4120B which has been discontinued. The connectors are the same, but you will have to replace the outer case ring for a better fit. I am on my way to Home Depot to see if they carry it in stock. It is available for on line purchase.

Answer:
I recently had to replace a 4120B through a warranty activity with BRK Electronics. They replaced it with a 9120B. It was completely plug compatible. You just need to use to new mounting assembly. I took less than 5 minutes to replace. Getting the ladder ready (I have very high ceilings) took most of the time.

Bought these alarms as a replacement for existing alarms that needed to be changed due to age (10 years). Not sure why smoke alarms always go bad and constantly go into alarm mode at 1:30 in the morning. I received the shipment in 2 days from the day I placed the order. That was much faster than I expected. These are only available on line in my area. It took no more than 5 minutes per alarm to remove the old alarm and collar, install the new collar and install the replacement alarm that came with a new battery already installed. The wire harness and connector are identical to the older model this one replaced. Final step was to test each alarm and ensure the tone was audible on all alarms and speakers. 5 alarms took about 30 minutes to install including clean up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dim LED's and Loose Battery Compartment The green power LED is extreamy dim. I was installing this on a sunny day and could not see that the green power LED was indeed on indicating proper connection. The battery compartment latch is poorly designed and hangs out unless the latch lock is installed. the directions indicated the latch lock as an option in a houshold but you clealy need to use it to get the compartment securly closed . The directions DO NOT indicate the positive + and negative - terminals in the battery compartment so if you remove the battery and do not note it's orientation you will need to use a flashlight and magnifying glass in order to see the + and - indicators DEEP within the battery compartment. The directions are overly complex and don't clearly indicate where the power LED vs the alarm LED are located. Why is 2016 are these things still so poorly constructed and designed?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replace BRK 4120B smoke alarm with BRK 9120B model Ordered six BRK 9120B smoke alarms to replace our old BRK 4120 alarms. Very simple. Just unplug the old and plug in the new. The mounting brackets (collars/rings) are just as easy to replace. Do that first. All you need is a screwdriver for them. Couldn't have been any easier.

I purchased this brand because that is what was in my condo when I purchased it. All we had to do was remove the old unit, put the new base on the existing screws and connect the existing wiring harness to the new unit. Bing, Bamb, Boom, done!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement Easy to replace. Stopped the system beeping in the middle of the night. If you have that problem, find the one that lights up red when they activate. That is the bad one that needs to be replaced. Found that information in the original instructions.
