Answer:
You can find out what that code means by untwisting your alarm unit and comparing to the numbers given on the back of the unit. If you have replaced the battery with a known good battery more then probable it is the radiation source within the unit--it is probably defective and will require replacement of that alarm unit.

Answer:
It comes with wiring for interconnect, but it is not required in case your installation does not require it. There are wires for hot, common and interconnect and are clearly labeled in the instructions

I continue to see info regarding "unplugging" old unit and "plugging" in new unit. I do not find anything on the unit that "unplugs" or "plugs". Once twisting the unit from the mount/base, there are 3-sets of wires with caps. Am I missing something that "plugs / unplugs"?

Answer:
It doesn't plug into an outlet. It is a direct wired unit. It comes with an adapter so you can remove the main unit for painting, etc.

Answer:
If you have a combination A/C power with battery back-up you will have a wire harness plug-in connector in the back of the unit. Twist off the unit from its ceiling base and you will see it. It is shock proof.

Answer:
The actual detector plugs into the unit that was hard wired into your electrical circuits. If you buy a replacement you can leave the original base wired and unplug the old one and plush in the new one.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 105 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Shelf Life for SC9120B First Alert Combo Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Be aware and forewarned when purchasing this product of the manufacture date on the back of the alarm unit. Customer service at First Alert (800-323-9005) tells me that there is a shelf life of only 5 years on units manufactured before May 2011. We have apartment buildings and In January 2016, we purchased eight units from Home Depot for replacement on units that were starting to chirp. The units we purchased had a stamped manufacturing date of April 25, 2011. Here it is August 2016 and we are having to replace all the units we just recently replaced as all the new units started chirping and will not cease chirping even after replacing with new batteries, twice (thinking perhaps the batteries were defective). The batteries are fine. It is the units that are at the end of their shelf life so I am told by customer service at First Alert; and unless I can produce the receipt, First Alert customer service cannot/will not assist me. 2015 taxes were filed and receipts are with accountant. I feel that First Alert should have not only the manufacture date on the back, BUT, should also have the expiration date stamped alongside. Had we known these units have a shelf life/expiration dates, we would not be buying in bulk and replacing expired units with more expired (but new) units. I am also disappointed that the big box stores are selling expired merchandise that should be pulled off the shelves!!! August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product I bought two of these to put in my workshop because local codes require smoke alarms which are interconnected. There is no standard electrical connection, evidently, because the connection to these units were different from the ones that were replaced. The directions were clear and easy to follow, and both were installed quickly and easily. I have had them for a month now, with no false alarms and no problems. I would have given them 5 stars for a 10 year battery included as part of the alarm, but they do come with a battery pre-installed with only requirement to remove the plastic shield for the terminals which does not require you to remove the battery. Will probably buy additional units for main house since we have a gas fireplace. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase. I already had the same product installed so it was great to find it at home depot at a great price. Installation was easy because I used the base of the old one that kept chirping 3 times denoting that it needed to be replaced. The product also arrived one day prior to the expected date which is always a plus. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BRK Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Perfect Solution! I replaced two BRK Smoke Alarms with two BRK Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms in our home. They were compatible with the existing multi-alarm system and matched perfectly in the ceiling. Great solution to adding carbon monoxide alarm capability to our home. The removal of the old smoke alarms and installation of the two new smoke & carbon monoxide alarms was "plug and play"! April 12, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smart purchase Easy to install as replacements for existing out of date units. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good value These smoke/co detectors were a very good value via the home depot. I ordered 6 and they arrived on time and were all in new condition. August 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BRK Easy to install. 1 out of 7 damaged. Internet order took two weeks. Unable to buy in store. Returned the damaged unit and purchased replacement at Lowes. Cost more but a stocked item. August 16, 2016
