Asked by: MightyMouse
Always check with the manufacturer since they all have different installation requirements. A quick stop at Hardibacker's site shows: "Fasten HardieBacker cement board with specified nails or screws every 8” over the entire surface. Keep fasteners between 3/8" and 3/4" from board edges and 2" from board corners," You can maintain this only where there are support studs for walls, obviously, otherwise this rule is to be maintained regardless of placement on walls, counter tops, ceilings or wherever. There are also other standards worth checking out on their site. Such as recommended fasteners and placing board into a bed of thinset, for example.
