Can this act as stand-alone fencing?

Or is it better when attached to an already existing fence?
Asked by: ckj1120
No, windy, stormy conditions will blow it down.

Can this be placed on top of a vinyl fence?

Asked by: Jb
You need to fasten the fence with a galvanized wire, so if you can wrap the wire around the vinyl fence, you could, but the wire may be noticeable on one side. What you fasten it to, should be sturdy and strong as the bamboo may be "pulling" on it if you will. The wire is not very noticeable on the bamboo side.

Could this be zip tied to tall tree metal stakes which are securely pounded into the ground?

I'm looking for an inexpensive fence to install which will keep a neighbors dog out of my yard. This dog has attacked my two pups 4 times now in my own yard because the owners can't keep him on his leash. I'm hoping to move but in the meantime am looking for something to install that will protect us. I have a lot of tall metal tree stakes which are extremely sturdy. I'm wondering if this would work to pound these tree stakes into the ground every six feet or so and zip tie this bamboo fencing to these tree stakes.
Asked by: curious
We used zip ties to attach to existing fence. Poles may not be enough to unless spaced 2 feet or so apart.

1 in. D x 6 ft. H x 8 ft. W Natural Rolled Bamboo Fence is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 135.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from one year on I purchased six initially, then had to purchase another two. Quite a few pieces were questionable whether they were 1" or not. A couple pieces were split. I pre-treated mine with a wood water sealer. After a year some look ok, some have turned black, some have lost their original color (the second set of two that I bought). Mine is in full mid morning to mid afternoon sun, so it shouldn't be getting moldy (black). I used a roller on a long stick to put the wood sealer on with each one laying flat on the ground. The sealer did not get around the bamboo good enough so I had to put extra on, making somewhat of a mess. It may have been better to spray it on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from moldy mess We purchased 8 rolls to attach to a chain link fence. It was easy to install and looked great at first. We followed the directions for cleaning and sealing it. 2 months later, it is covered with black mold. I was told that this happens if the bamboo is harvested too soon. So, in spite of the company's web site saying they use quality bamboo, they apparantly dont.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's so easy Needed a solution to provide privacy on one side of our house that had a 4' chain link fence about 70' in length. I contacted the owner to get permission to attach bamboo and he was happy about the idea. The product is solid and well made. We had it delivered to HD 9 8' rolls so it would arrive in tact no UPS they break too many heavy boxes. HD helped load onto our pickup. The bamboo installed easily with 3 people our neighbor helped too. Everyone is pleased and it looks better now too. Highly recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not impressed After I bought these I stored them in my basement for a year. It's dry basement. When I unrolled them about 1/3 of them had split and I tossed them out. Large splits, not little cracks. OK I still had enough for my project. I sealed them and they went up OK. After 1 year many were black and moldy. There might be some climate where these splitting/mold issues don't happen (like China) but I wouldn't buy them twice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great It's bamboo fencing. It goes up easily and hides much of the unsightly stuff in my neighbor's yard i have been looking at for years. Time will tell how long it lasts but I am sure it will last as long as any comparably priced stockade or other cheap lumber fence. One installation tip: The fence is cut such that one end has the bamboo growth rings all aligned, while the other end of the fence the rings are somewhat random. Try to install so that the aligned ends are in the upper position, otherwise the ends will fill with water (unless you build a top for the fence). This water will likely cause splitting issues and allow mosquitoes to breed. I put up one section this way and used a small drill bit to put in drain holes.

It highlights the plants and provides a natural looking screen from the street and common area. Easy to install, but easier with two than alone probably. Quality material and quality assembly. We like it so much we are going to install more in the spring.
