Had an old ugly chain link fence that offered very little privacy between neighbors. Used the existing chain link fence to provide the support for the new bamboo fence. I did quite a bit of research after reading numerous reviews which pointed out hidden problems and challenges. Here's what I learned: must install a couple of inches above the ground; must install using galvanized wire that is thick enough to provide stability but thin enough to bend. Do not use 24 gauge since it is too flimsy. Do not use plastic ties: Install each section with the side up that will not let water sit in it, I believe it is called the knuckle side up; Make sure you cut away as much vegetation as possible from your existing chain link fence before you begin the project or you will be sorry; have a wire cutter and needle nose pliers ready; use a power washer with a bleach solution to spray down the entire fence after installing; let it dry for a day or two and then paint the fence with a very expensive product called TWP ( total wood protectant); make sure your neighbor allows you to go on their side of the yard so that you can easily attach the fence using the galvanized steel gauge wire and finally make sure that you have 2 people to install this fence since it is too heavy and cumbersome for one person to handle on their own.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BigMommaD Update to my other review
So I originally submitted a review for this product and wanted to update. After having it up for 4 months we have started to get mold on almost all of the rolls in some areas and more in others. What is odd is that some rolls are getting a lot of mold and some are getting next to none so it seems if you order just a single roll or two of this stuff you are rolling the dice as to if you get a moldy one or not. I think what happened is that we installed it in May when it was low humidity and not really hot yet so no mold. Then when August came it got really hot and humid and we had a lot of rain and the mold just exploded. I did a lot of research before my purchase and they don't make bamboo anywhere in the US, it all has to be shipped in. When they ship it comes to the US in cargo containers. The difference in air temperatures causes "sweat" inside the containers and promotes mold, can't get away from it. No matter who you buy from. So I was watching diligently for mold and now we have a lot of it. I didn't want to do straight bleach like I've heard other people do so I looked for a product designed for wood and use outdoors and found Concrobium Mold Stain Eraser. It's pricey and we needed a lot of it but promised no scrubbing needed and we had so much bamboo I really did not want to have to scrub it all. Sprayed this stuff on and really does work. We will see how it holds up over time. We are going to make sure we get rid of as much as we can see and then seal it with a mold resistant stain/sealant. Be aware that this will not be a maintenance free product. But we love the look of the bamboo too much to return it and try something else (which Hope Depot offered to do). I still gave it 4 stars because we love the bamboo and this is the nature of the product until someone in the US decides to get rich growing and selling this stuff! Will continue to update! pics attached

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BigMommaD Exactly what we wanted!
So I consider myself a pretty particular person and it is hard for me to be impressed by something but my husband and I both were extremely impressed with this product. I did months of research over the winter on how to do privacy railings on our deck surrounding our pool. I looked at buying from companies that only sold bamboo products to companies that only sold fencing. None of them had much I could find good or bad on the internet (which is a little sketchy to me) and all charged shipping. One place never answered the phone when I called and I tried 3 times (again, sketchy). We needed about 17 of these 8ft long rolls to get all the way around the deck so for this size purchase I wanted to feel good about where I was spending the money and that it was a real company. I decided on Home Depot because of the reviews and reputable company if I had problems. Plus the free shipping was a big cost savings. I ordered 2 rolls at first so my husband and I could see if we liked it before making a huge purchase of it. Came UPS in individual boxes and it was bagged inside the box in this ventilated fabric. Came out of the box and bag and we were immediately impressed with the uniqueness of each piece and how sturdy they were. My husband just built a frame on the deck between the posts putting a 2x6 on the bottom front and back leaving a 2" gap between and then 2x4's front and back on the top leaving the same 2" gap. Then he cut the bamboo roll to width to fit between the posts and slid the bamboo into the frame he just built. Was more private and easier than we ever could have expected! He would use the pieces he cut off and put 2 smaller pieces into a frame and you couldn't even tell where the one roll ended and the other begin, just looked like one seamless piece so we were able to use pretty much all of it. There were a lot of singles from what he took off the ends to get the width right but we kept them and will repurpose them. All 17 rolls looked identical in size and color too. Some were really green when we first put them up but all turned the same color as the treated wood within a day in the sun. When we placed the big order for the 15 rolls it came by freight company on a skid. I am the only person who wrote a review that ordered this much that I can tell so I doubt anyone else will have to worry about this, but someone will have to be home to sign for it. Comes all on a skid and you get a 4 hour window in which to be home. He just dropped it in the driveway and left. My husband had all 15 sections of bamboo measured, cut and in place in about 5 hours. Would have spent a fortune and many weekends to get the same privacy out of wood. My backyard is elevated compared to my neighbors so they just stand there and watch us in the pool. Now we have privacy not only outside but it blocks their view into our house too! Turned our deck into an instant island oasis! I bought tropical plants and thatch umbrellas to compliment the bamboo. It looks perfect. Sealing it with Cedar Shield. You have to seal these things or you'll have no end if trouble just like wood. And Cedar Shield is a one time application you never have to do it again. I was skeptical but extremely glad we made this purchase. In the Nebraska heat and cold I will truly test this stuff. If I have issues I will update this review but now that it's up and been a few days extremely satisfied! I will attach a pic.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SaraSmile Works great - very sturdy and SO attractive!
We love this! We have a balcony and 2 little kids, so we needed something to deter them from climbing over the railing. We bought the 4' high fence and screwed it into our existing balcony. It worked great and looks and feels like we're suddenly in Hawaii! I love it! It still lets in a good amount of light but is so strong and sturdy. I just love it! Highly recommend!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Moab302 Excellent quality building material
We used to buy our bamboo from Cali Bamboo directly. It was much more expensive than Home Depot and they didn't offer a freight program. Home Depot's material comes from Cali Bamboo in the end, at a better price and freight paid on $250 orders. Yay!
We had to go elsewhere for the redwood, as Home Depot no longer carries it in my area.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Columbia Love this beautiful thick bamboo!
We ordered a couple rolls of this fencing to add some privacy and an attractive accent to the street-facing portion of the chain link fence in our yard.
We considered many possible options to cover the chain link and add privacy (thin reed fencing, plastic privacy slats, privacy screen). The reviews for this product stood out. And once we received it, we were able to see why. It is beautiful in person! Such lovely, thick bamboo stalks make a really pleasant addition to our fence.
Installation over chain link is a 2 person job. We used zip ties and diagonal wire cutters, and finished up in about an hour. We installed it over a 12 1/2' section of fence (including a gate), and it took the majority of two rolls to do this. We have about 4' of the product left (plus several loose pieces of bamboo). The breaks in our fence around the gate did make us waste several slats. If you are covering a straight section with no breaks, it will go further. The wire it's mounted on is sturdy, so we had to work with it a little to get it to track properly on the uphill section. But overall, we're pleased with the result.
Everyone who sees it asks if it's real bamboo. The stalks are so pretty and heavy, I guess they think it's artificial.
The instructions say it would be best to seal this product to protect it from fading and weathering, but that's not too much of an issue for a small section like this. Wish we could afford to cover all the chain link with this product! We love it!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shamwife Love this fence!!
We bought this as an affordable option for blocking out the neighbors yard, and having a backdrop to plant against. It looks fantastic and was quick and easy to install with zipties to the existing chain link fence. Much more affordable than the wooden privacy fence we put on another property line, but yet they blend together nicely.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by pat5208 Very rustic and inconsistent color.
This fence is made up of bamboo poles tied together, the length, with three pieces of wire. The only way to secure it to your frame is by screwing it in. Bamboo is hollow. If you screw in too tightly you will split the bamboo which is undesirable. You must pre-drill each hole before screwing it in and don't screw in too far. Use tan colored decking screws, at least 2" long, so you can attempt to hide the fact that you had to use screws in the first place. I bought two rolls of natural bamboo fencing, each 8 feet long. The first roll was nice looking with hints of brown and green highlights. The second roll was plain colored bamboo. The color distinction is evident. Otherwise a nice product.
