Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by mcas73 Very disappointed in these blinds!
These blinds are described as "blackout" yet the room we hung them in is still extremely bright! We went so far as to order the white (which was our preference, but they didn't "blackout") AND the black as backup (also didn't "blackout" the room!) Furthermore, the string attachment to pull the blinds up/down got stuck on day 1 -- and as I was trying to fix it, it detached completely. I'm very disappointed & will be returning both the black & white blinds I purchased.

A walkway light from outside our new apartment was shinning directly onto our faces. No sleep! I measured and went and picked this item out because it was black and promised light blocking. It works great! I am a very picky person and I love my new blind. Can't sleep without it! I'm in first floor and not being able to see in was absolutely important as well. I highly recommend it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JM "Balckout" is a completely inaccurate description
These blinds do not block light in either of the closed positions. When tilted up, blinds do not close completely and do not darken the room at all. When tilted down, sunlight (or any outside light from above) shines right through the slats.

Once you get past the problem that seems consistent with Bali shades (they only close fully one way, which reduces it one star) these proved to be a good value. Did they block ALL the light? No, nothing will except a black-out curtain. Do they keep the rising sun glare out of by bedroom at a bearable level? Absolutely. They are in every way superior to the inferior Bali so called sun-blocking shades I tried in another room (which I will never purchase again).

I put in our dog room to blackout windows so they cant see the motion lights outside. My pups are all really old now and deaf. a couple are blind but, they would see that light come on and they would lose their minds. Now I can sleep all night. exactly what we needed.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SouthernMan2016 Not what I wanted
The slats do not let light through their surface--what you would expect with a "blackout" blind--but there is way too much light coming in-between. I read other reviews saying the same, but thought that since I am not trying to sleep in this room, I wouldn't be bothered by a little light coming through. But I am still blinded by direct sun with these blinds. You cannot turn the slats in the opposite direction (down instead of up) to accommodate a high sun. The blinds do not close all the way when you do this, and the reflected light is very bright. Either way, I cannot get sufficient light stopped to work with these right next to my desk. I'm quite frustrated with this. My third attempt to get something that would work.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by sillyme not remotely blackout
it says "blackout" on the box. i knew i wouldn't get a darkroom-like dimming. it performs less well than the ridiculous cardboard i had taped up. i can __read__ with the blinds and the curtains closed. to get the best dimming i had to turn them inside out -- the cable pull and the adjusting rod are behind the blind next to the window. which means i have to reach through the blind to open or adjust. sorry i did this.

I use these in my dog room, they block out the motion lights at night that get them worked up.
