How does this rye grass seed work in Texas with dogs doing their bodily functions on the grass, with high protein.

Asked by: kkvb
High Protein or not, a dogs feces and urine will kill the area they go on. The only way to fix is try to water asap or when it turns yellow, dig area up put down some mulch and reseed. Feces not so much as urine. If you pick up after your dog poos, not much will happen. Leave it there and you will replant. This is a fast growing seed and needs water twice a day here in FL. Texas also hot so plan on watering twice a day after it establishes and while germinating you need to keep the seed moist. Let it dry out it will die or just not germinate.

Is this a temporary grass that I have to plant every year?

Asked by: loverboy
Perennial means it will come back in spring, depending on where you live. You will have to oversewed with annual rye seed or whatever winter blend if your grass dies out each winter. I now live in FL. Planted seed in October, a mix of perennial and annual rye. The annual is starting to turn brown so have now oversewed with pinnacle II and is working out beautifully. Great grass seed. I've had grass all winter where I planted. WATER< WATER WATER.

Just planted some five days ago and has already come up about 1" or so. Very hard to grow grass here and neighbors tell me it will not survive, however, we finally found our sprinkler system which was buried under about 8-12" of sand so now that works thanks to a lot of replacement parts. Pinnacle seed is the best rye grass seed I've ever bought. If I can keep it alive in this heat I shall consider myself lucky. Would definitely recommend but coming from the North (VT) folks down here told me I would never have grass this past winter. I've mowed at least 6-7 times and all I grew was winter rye with some perennial mixed in. Different brand, actually contractor blend. This Pinnacle II beats it with an all time high. To early to take a photo :( so maybe should have waited to do review but if folks want a nice liking grass that doesn't looks like mounds I highly suggest they try this.

I rototilled my yard in September and planted my seed on Oct. 9th. I covered with hay and watered twice a day for an hour. Within a week the seed had germinated and after 2 weeks my lawn looks amazing!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product!!! I've never started a lawn from seed, so I did my homework... found this stuff on the HD website, it's not available in my store... I checked out this company and found them very reputable, renowned for quality, and they're "local" from just outside my old hometown... they specialize in field turfs and tough, durable grass in pastures and what not... I wanted something that could take some abuse but still be soft and beautiful at the same time... after a hard afternoon's prep work I threw out the seed as instructed and put a thin cover of peat moss over it, then kept it good and moist for a week... I had a full lawn of baby sprouts after one week, it's now been four weeks and it's lush and thick and a beautiful dark green and ready for it's first mowing... I still have a ton of seed with the backyard still to go, but even then I'll have enough left over for any potential patches next Spring... highly recommended!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best grass seed I have used I lost over half my yard last year and again this year before I found out I had a lawn fungus.i planted this seed and Scott's tall fescue at same time about 3 weeks ago this seed came up in 4 days the Scott's well it's yet to be seen.and it's about the same price be bad homedepot does not sell this in store available only on line ,it takes a couple weeks for shipping.but well worth the wait,I have wasted a lot of money in last two years on high dollar grass seed and not see much results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Excellent product. We had to have a new septic tank and leach lines put in which means half of our back yard was dug up. We researched on line and decided this grass seed was the way to go. It started to sprout in about 4 days! This was about a month ago and now a month later we have a gorgeous lush lawn with no weeds. I picked out a few dandelions but that was all. We put down starter fertilizer first, then the seed (two layers), then raked it in, then put a layer of peat moss over it. When the ground puddled after rain, I would add more seed and peat. We watered every day. You have to keep the seed, new grass from drying out. I've already mowed twice.
