Is this unit come with a battery or I have to buy separate ?

Asked by: Nicky
You need to purchase a separate battery. A maintenance free battery is available for the 1/3 HP unit, but the 1/2 HP unit uses regular batteries. You need to add the electrolyte to the regular batteries yourself, which is potentially hazardous (sulfuric acid), but pretty safe if you follow the directions and wear gloves and eye protection. You will need to choose which battery you want. In theory, you could run several batteries in parallel for longer run time, but you should make sure you know what you are doing before attempting that.

1/3 HP Combination Unit with Emergency Backup Sump Pump System is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Short life span I bought this system about 3 years ago and all has been well till now. The alarm was going off for the backup being active. So I manually activated the main pump and water sprayed all over my walls and laundry appliances. At that point I pulled the unit out of the sump and the side metal jacket is completely rotten. And of course we are currently having a large rainfall and expect at least 2 inches of rain. So I am left relying on a small battery backup to keep my freshly renovated basement dry ( bought this system after my basement flooded 3 years ago). So not a great return on investment. When I purchased this it was almost 500 and it lasted 3 years. Since the backup has a bracket that directly mounts to the main pump I either have to buy the whole system again or replace the whole system with a different brand. Overall the size is great but 3 years for 500 bucks is ridiculous.

No extra connectors, cables, etc needed. Fit easily in a 12" sump pit and no floats that can hang up on the edges of the pit (a problem I've had in the past). It started working right away. I was afraid that the 1/3hp was not strong enough, but each time it goes on, it only engages for about 10 seconds and the pumptank is empty. So its strong enough, I just hope it lasts. I also bought this smaller model because the DC backup pump runs longer on a single battery charge, as my main worry is a long power outage where I've had basement flooding in the past. Definitely recommend paying extra to buy the sealed maintenance free battery and happy watchdog now offers it. . BOTTOM LINE: Installing the unit gave me immediate piece-of-mind and so far so good, but only time will tell.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Died within a year Bought this in November 2016. Main pump already seized. Because of where I live I had no choice but to buy a replacement pump elsewhere and add it to the battery back up. I could not remove it and return it under warranty as my basement would have flooded. I'm guessing since I removed the main pump my warranty is void anyways.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from To good to be true Installed this unit inside a Basin 4 months ago and now that the melt is on it is running intermittently on the back up pump on day 2. The main pump is vibrating when it runs and seems to be going into over load protection forcing the back up to take over will be returning it unfortunately.
