Uses marine type wet cell battery. Recommend use of Basement Watchdog battery, designed to run the backup pump. Plug-in transformer and power cord provides continues trickle charge to keep battery charged.

Answer:
Our systems require 12 volt Deep Cycle standby batteries. Depending on which model Basement Watchdog system you have we recommend going with either the 6 hour battery (Model #24EP6) or the larger 7.5 hour battery (Model #30HDC140S). The owners manual for our products will state which battery is correct for your system.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 1/3 hp combo sump pump with 12 volt back up the unit installed very quickly and easily. its all plastic but when dealing with water its probably the best option. directions were basic and could have been better but it was easy to figure it out. since I have a steady flow of water coming in I needed some peace of mind that if I wasn't home and the power went out that my basement would not flood and this appears to fit the bill. I would recommend this product. May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Installation of 1/3 combination sump pump The pump was relatively easy to install because the back-up pump was already assembled to the primary pump. It appears to be a quality product, although it hasn't been installed long enough to make that determination. I ordered their new maintenance free battery, and it was difficult to get the fluid sensor to stay on the positive battery terminal as I tightened down the nut on the terminal. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product for Tight Fit Needed battery backup for very tight fit into existing enclosed sump pump space. Because of minimal space to maneuver, this compact pump was the only known product that could be retrofitted into the space and to marry up with existing PVC piping arrangement. Works like a champ, although not yet had occasion for actual power outage use. And a very good price point to boot. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great buy! Well worth the money . This thing is quiet! No knocking sound when it stops either. It's like it's not there. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hurricane Sandy Bought it about a year ago and haven't needed it. Then hurricane Sandy hit us in New Jersey. I wasn't sure how the system was going to work once the power went out. I was worried to got to sleep because I wasn't sure how it was going to work. I checked it every half hour because my basement floods real quick. After awhile I fell asleep and woke up the next morning and it worked great, not a drop of water in the basement. Once I hooked up the generator I was able to power the pump with electric. Bit it is one of the best investments I made. It really relieved a lot of stress. If you are thinking about buying one, don't hesitate go and get it! October 31, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delivered Quickly Moved into a older home and the existing sump pump was on its last leg. As the hard rains kept coming I feared either a power failier or a pump failier. So late on a Saturday night as the thunder storms pounded and the TV constantly beeped, sending emergency flood warnings while the old pump rattled and strained; I went online (1/3 hp watchdog combo is only available online) to order the pump. Luckily the old pump made it through the night, and the new one arrived that Tuesday afternoon (2 days for delivery, that's fast.) The Install was easy, it took more time to shop vac out all the debris in the bottom of the sump pit then it was to install the pump itself. I Decided to go with a maintenance free deep cycle battery instead of the recommended watchdog battery, (horrible reviews online about their battery, not their pumps). As per instructions I attached the battery acid probe to the positive terminal of the battery. So far the pump runs very well and is super quiet, especially when compared to the old concrete mixer that was there originally. If the pump doesn't last I will surely review this product again in the future. I would definitely recommend this pump at this point to anyone looking to install a new primary pump and would like the added confidence in knowing that if the power or the main pump fails, you won't be wadding in water thinking (duhh, I probably should have gotten a battery back up pump.) Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Purchase This turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It was actually as easy to install this pump as advertised! Solid design, great features, with a primary and a secondary pump plus battery backup. May 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sump Pump Good instructions, easy to install. If you you your own battery make sure it has a good charge on it before connecting up to the trickle charger they provide or the system will alarm and the trickle charger won't charge the battery quick enough. December 31, 2014
