After replacing the battery all I get is an error signal and of course the beeping sound. I have used different batteries with the same result.

Answer:
All Kidde co2 detectors mfd. 2007 and later have a working life of 7 years. Mine just died 04/15/16 (Err code). Looked on back and it was mfd. 05/2007. Looked up code error online and found the working life info. Putting new batteries in it does not work - it will still "chirp" every 30 seconds AND it will no longer detect co2. I cannot speak of other brands as mine is a Kidde.

Answer:
I was told by the fire department it should be on an interior wall and not near a furnace vent also stay away from bathroom as hairspray and air fresheners can make them go off.
