I found the Battic Plug online and installed it as soon as it arrived. I have severe heat loss in my cabin, with a very inefficient fireplace. We have had one of the coldest winters on record. The Battic Plug definitely is keeping the draft to a minimum, and keeping my inside stone wall much warmer. I monitor this constantly with an infrared heat sensor. Since I am the installer (smaller female), I recommend safety glasses, work gloves, and a work shirt -- because I needed to climb partway in the fireplace to tuck in the corners and sides of the plug, and I got debris in my eyes, plus sooty hands. Just didn't have the arm reach necessary inside my fireplace. I removed the plug for a fire on Sunday, and am glad to say it was even easier to reinstall on Monday.

I bought this product several years ago when they were first introduced at a Home Show. I have an older fireplace so purchased this style to fit the elongated Battic Door. (the round style is for the new fireplaces with the round battic doors)
It was very easy to assemble and install (by myself, no helper). Just make sure you do not inflate it fully until you have it in place. (I go back every once in a while and make sure to check inflation, just like any balloon type product, it will lose air and I have used mine for several years now, only have to re inflate about once or twice a year if that).
Immediately I noticed it stopped the constant whistling from the air being sucked out of the house. I don't even notice the product in place (I tucked the tube out of site), the stem is there to hold it in place and it is black.
This is one of the products I use to help reduce my energy cost in an old house that used to be an energy drainer.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by StevieRoy Helped Reduce Drafts
I put in my fireplace, the one we haven't used in years, to hekp get rid of the drafts in our family room. It installed pretty easily and I had no trouble inflating it and getting it to "stay", I've not used the prop so far and after weeks, no slipppage.
I was a little worried about cutting in accordance with the directions for the damper handle but some caution was good and I did not damage it.
It's has made our family room much more comfortable and I should have begun using this long ago

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Badeil Easy to install - stopped the draft
I purchased this after a home energy audit found that we were loosing heated / air conditioned air through a pretty significant draft in the chimney. It was very easy to install - we didn't follow the directions exactly because we didn't want the post to be visible, so we just stuck the partially inflated fireplace plug in the chimney and continued to inflate it until it stuck. It's been a few weeks and its has stayed up there without any problems. I have noticed that it has cut down on the draft from the chimney. I expect it will help lower our heating/air conditioning costs, but haven't had it long enough to notice an impact on our bills yet.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by sarah sealed off the air coming from my fireplace
It was such a cold winter. I went all over my house looking for any leaks. Even though the damper to the fireplace was closed, the freezing air was rushing in. The plug was fairly easy to install. The only problem I encountered was around the damper handle. I was not able to put a slit in this area as recommended by the directions. It was a small area (just a few inches) so I had some insulation that I stuffed into that area. No air coming in now. Great product. Will say its a bit expensive but its really thick vinyl. Home depot's price was very competitive to others. Shipping was fast. If your fireplace leaks air like mine did, get this plug and save some money on your utilities.
