Product Overview

The E-Z Hatch R-42 Attic Access Door is an air-tight, high-performance, energy-efficient attic access scuttle door. The kit includes a wood frame, preinstalled trim, and an insulating door. It is R-42, triple-gasketed, pre-finished, and fits into a 22.5 in. x 30.5 in. rough opening. It is an energy efficient alternative to attic pulls down ladders, and exceeds all code requirements. Due to the recent IRC and IECC code changes it may be difficult to select an attic access that meets the new building and energy codes. The new code requirements require that the attic access pull down ladder or access hatch must be insulated to the same level as the rest of the attic (minimum of R-30 to R-49). Pull down attic ladders no longer meet code unless insulated to minimum of R-30. E-Z hatch is the alternative. A step ladder provides attic access.
  • E-Z hatch is an air tight attic access door that meets the new codes
  • E-Z hatch fits into a 22.5 in. x 30.5 in. rough opening
  • E-Z hatch is pre-finished and includes trim
  • E-Z hatch is easily installed in new and remodel construction
  • E-Z hatch is R-42 (R-50 also available)

Can the access hatch lift if there is a back draft or move for any other reason.

Hatch lifting unexpectedly
Asked by: Wondering
No - the weight of the door (about 10 lbs) keeps it closed air tight. There is a keyed locking model if security is needed (shared attics, apartments, etc).

But, it is made in china and mine was damaged in shipping. Four pieces of plywood held together with brads. It doesn't look like they were glued. Get some shims to use between the door frame and the trusses. Door frame easily warps when attaching it. Battic Door could do a better job packaging the door for shipping.

My attic entrance was in the hallway which forever drove me crazy. So it's remodel time and this was on the list. I moved it into the soon to be gym. As others have noted it isn't very flush to the ceiling. I used a ladder and a 2x4 to add more pressure and get it a much tighter fit. Doing so did crack the seams just a bit. But it just needs a small bead of caulk now. Very well built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool Concept that works Why didn't somebody think of this earlier? Clean Installation, went well - didn't have prior attic access. Blends nicely, no need to paint and you would not know it was there - loved the idea of the R42 push open hatch - does not cause the slightest change in air temp or draft.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Attic Access door I had to order two doors, one was broken on the corner when it arrived. The second was in good shape. Its a very high quality access door. The installation was easy, apart from lifting/screwing it in. It was a bit difficult to push up on the seal ring with popcorn ceiling, it kept trying to expand back down while it was getting screwed into the rafters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK I had a wood covering before this. I think price was a little too much for a Styrofoam backed door, I paid for convenience. I will say its looks made up for it. I had to modify it to fit the opening and it was easy to do so.
