Product Overview

Battic Door R-50 Attic Stair Cover is an energy-efficient pull down ladder insulating cover. New codes require the attic access to be insulated to the same level as the attic. The kit includes everything you need to cover, seal, and insulate your pull down ladder. The kit includes the rigid box (stair cover), rubber gasket, a reflective shield and R-50 fiberglass insulation to cover the top of box. Installs easily without tools. Insert the insulation into the reflective shield, and place the stair cover rigid box into the reflective shield covering the insulation. The shield holds the insulation to the box. Additional insulation (not included) may be added to the sides, or insulate the attic up to the sides of the stair cover kit. The stair cover fits between trusses. Available in 3 sizes to fit most any size or brand of pull down ladder: 22 in. x 54 in., 25 in. x 54 in. and 30 in. x 54 in. Also available without insulation (installer may add their own insulation to desired level).

  • New codes require the attic access pull down ladder be insulated to the same level as the attic floor (minimum R-30), unless insulated to a minimum of R-30, attic ladders do not meet code
  • Kit includes a stair cover box sized to fit perfectly onto the frame of your wood or aluminum pull down ladder
  • Stair cover kit weighs about 10 lbs. and rests on a rubber gasket to provide an air seal
  • Stair cover box is covered with reflective aluminum foil wrap that reflects attic heat and creates a large pocket over the box that is filled with R-50 fiberglass insulation
  • Additional insulation (not included) may be added to the sides of the box (space permitting), or insulate the attic up the sides of the stair cover kit
  • Durable stair cover box is made of white heavy duty corrugated board, ends are 3 layers thick for strength and durability
  • Easy to install - the kit assembles in minutes without tools
  • Premium R-50 fiberglass is pre-cut and included to cover the top of the stair cover box
  • Stair cover box is 13 in. deep and fits most any brand of wood or aluminum 25 in. x 54 in. size attic stairs
  • Interior dimensions of box are 24 in. x 52 in.
  • How to measure: Measure the hinged plywood door, if 24 in. W x 52 in. L this is the correct kit, other size kits are available for other size stairs
  • Stair cover will rest on the 3/4 in. W frame of the ladder, not on the top of joists or attic floor
  • To enter attic, climb ladder and push stair cover out of the way, the stair cover is not connected or hinged, when leaving attic lower box back into position, ladder folds up inside of box

My attic stairs opening is very near the eaves and I only have 13 inches above the place where the
insulation frame sits. Can the insulation be compressed down that low?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Value Attic Stair Cover I was losing a lot of insulation from my attic through the pulldown staircase, and the second floor bedroom in which it was located was always much warmer in summer than the rest of the house. Contractors recommended a new staircase, at a cost of $2000 fully installed. However, I purchased this stair cover instead, and was able to install it myself (as a woman who lives alone) in about an hour. It has brought the temperature in the room to within about one degree of the adjacent room. I'm very satisfied. July 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't fit properly My attic door had 2x4's at the entrance, so it didn't fit properly. They don't tell you this you before you buy it. For it to fit properly, you attic space has to be completely free of any support around the opening inside the attic. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good product The insulation on top is good, but adding insulation to the sides are complicated and I had to add rigid board to the inside od the box. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So Far SO Good...I think... It has been a month or two now since I've installed the product. It wasn't difficult to pull together and get it in the attic. I did it myself. The only issue I had is actually getting the insulation to stay in the box! Maybe I installed it wrong, but once the box is turned over and I'm exiting the attic, the insulation begins to fall onto my attic stairs. right now, the insulation just sits on my attic stairs. luckily, i have not had a reason to go up there. as far as a difference...i checked my electric usage from MAY 2015 to MAY 2016...there is about a 300 kwh difference. i cant be sure whether its bc i was home less or what...but obviously it has reduced quite a bit. i would recommend the product. it helped with the drafting issues of the heat or the cold coming in from the attic door. best of luck, yall! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Really easy to install and works great I am not the most "handy" person on the planet, but the easy to follow instructions made unfolding and refolding the box into the right shape easy and straight-forward. The hardest thing about the whole ordeal is finding a place in my over-stuffed, unorganized attic to put the box when I need to put it aside and physically enter the attic. The height of the box is about 2 feet, so you need about 28+ inches of clearance between the attic floor and the roof to be able to install and manuver the box. That wasn't clear to me when I bought it, but luckily I had enough room. It appears to be quite airtight and is doing the job. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Satisfied Purchased when insulating my garage to cover the pull down steps. Arrived quickly and was assembled in less then 5 minutes. When put into place it fit perfectly. I was originally considering purchasing insulation and fabricating my own cover out of scrap wood, etc. but decided to go with this product. I am glad I did. It is comprised only of foam weather seal stuck to the staircase frame, a cardboard box with 2 batts of fiberglass insulation on top of it and covered in a reflective insulation. All the components could have been purchased separately for less money but headache saved, it was totally worth the extra couple bucks. January 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install - even for me - see below If a 3 month-shy of 70 year-old woman, with 2 bad knees, and 2 complete hip replacements, can install the stair cover, then anyone can!! Noticed when I went in my attic that it was very warm. Know this will help, and I only spend approximately 1 hour installing. The reason it took sooooo long, was because I had to go very slow because of disabilities and make sure to move slowly; and, I could not stand up in the attic. Sat at the head of the stairs and worked around a very low ceiling, and small space. February 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I expected The stair cover was easy to assemble and seems to be doing the job. I needed some help getting it up the stairs into the attic after assembly, February 16, 2016
