Answer:
Any pure mineral oil (which this is) can be used on soapstone. (Oil is used on soapstone to prevent a gray patina from developing on the soapstone -- the oil helps maintain the vivid colors of the stone, its veining, and any flecks that are present.) For use on soapstone, you need to avoid any mineral oil that includes waxes in the mix, but this is 100% mineral oil

Answer:
I don't know what the benefit would be using this on soapstone. The mineral oil is intended for wood where it penetrates and "seals" the poors of the wood. I doubt there would be much, if any, penetration on soapstone.

Does this product contain anything other than mineral oil? Also, can you tell me if it changes the color of the raw wood. I just had my maple butcher block island sanded down and it is now a beautiful blond color. I don't want it to return to the yellowish color either after the first application or after multiple applications. Anyone have experience with this? Otherwise, I might have to stain the wood to keep it an off white color. thanks.

Answer:
I cannot speak for THIS product one on one. However, I make end grain cutting boards and I use mineral oil to "season" the board. I then coat it several times with a combination of beeswax and mineral oil. The wood always changes color when oiled or stained. I'd be careful with stain on an island. You must be sure whatever you use is " food safe ".
