Customer Questions & Answers

If this is being used to light a flag will the glass shatter from rain?

The current light I have has the glass shattered from rain collecting on the lens and the glass is non replaceable, therefore I have to buy a new fixture about every 3 months.
Asked by: skeeter
These lamps have a design flaw. The original did not have an X in the glass and they shatter from the heat. The new design with an X works better but the heat from the bulb causes the gasket to shrink and water gets in after a while. The bulbs used to be $6 each and now are $13 (amazon). For the price of the bulb it could be time to upgrade to the LED version which runs about $35 since you only have one. No heat from the bulb and I hear they are sealed from rain and should last 20 years. I have had all the same problems and I am thinking about buying fixtures for $9 because it is now cheaper than the bulbs (and get new glass). I have 6 to replace. Could a G8 LED bulb be used to replace the GY8.6 HALOGEN bulb?

Could a G8 LED120V bulb replace the GY8.6 HALOGEN 120V bulb that comes with it, but which uses much more energy than LED and gets so very HOT?
Asked by: SFP
Yes. I used a G8 LED bulb that cost me a couple bucks, but it's only a 20W equivalent. If you want something brighter, you'll need to spend $35 for the one from Hubbell

Asked by: jimb
120V halogen lamp. No ballast or transformer. It is wired directly to the lampholder.

Where can I get replacement bulbs for this product?

A rep told me that this lamp takes a gym.6 type 4 75watt halogen blub, but where can I order these?
Asked by: jared
This is a standard size bulb that you should be able to find at most retailers that sell bulbs. You should also be able to Google GY 8.6 Type 4 halogen bulb which should give you options of where to buy them

Customer Reviews

Weatherproof Halogen Lampholder is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gasket Shrinks The light works great but after awhile the gasket shrinks (probably from the heat) and water penetrates. Because of the water the bulbs keep burning out and they are expensive to replace. These fixtures replaced similar ones I purchased from Lowes which had water leak in after the glass cracked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I feel this is a great light and very easy to install. This product performance is great, I hooked it up to an motion dector and it works flawlessly. Just enough light and not over beraring on the electric bill.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice warm lighting. Won't hold position. I bought 4 of these lamps to light my patio. They put out a nice warm light and even at 75w they provide good coverage due to the broad lenses. The only problem is these lamps won't hold their position. The cinch nut clamps down on a thin o-ring. Gravity or the slightest wind will move them out of aim. They are an attractive looking fixture so I may try to fix them with a thicker o-ring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a great product for the money I use this with a photocell to light my flag on a 22' pole. It does a very good job and has been performing well for 3 years!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Quality You will not be able to get the cover off to change the bulb in summer. The metal gets extremely hot and expands. You may as well throw your money away. Terrible design.
