More than likely it is the bulb that is the problem. Any bulb that has ridges, bumps, or facets in the glass in the area that the gasket is intended to contact will most likely leak because the ridges hold the gasket away from the bulb and do not allow for a 360 degree seal. Make sure when purchasing bulbs to inspect the neck of the bulb in the area of where the glass meets the metal threaded portion Read More

Answer:
Mine did too until I used a different bulb, make sure it is a "weatherproof" or "suitable for wet locations" bulb. I use a Feit Electric: PAR38 Dimmable LED Light Bulb - Weatherproof, Indoor/Outdoor 90W/18W and despite plenty of rain I haven't had any corrosion or failures to function.

Answer:
The rubber gasket should be sealing around the bulb. There are some bulbs with raised ribs or other protrusions on the neck that interfere with gasket. If you have one of these bulbs you will not get a good seal.

This spotlight shoots 120AC volts directly to the bulb! I wouldn't use any low voltage bulb in it for fear of blowing out the bulb.

Answer:
Yes, just make sure that it can be screwed in all the way without contacting the housing. Some bulbs have larger bases (mainly CFL) and it will not fit inside the housing and allow it to be tightened enough to make electrical contact.

Answer:
Yes a Par38 bulb can be used in the SL101B spike light. Please makes sure the neck of the bulb is smooth so that the gasket seals around it. We have found that some bulb manufactures have ridges on their bulbs.

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 50 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great portable light for a great price I was looking for lights to light up holiday signage I had placed on my front lawn and bought 5 of these, 4 of them did the trick, since the letters were 3 feet tall and approximately 50' from end to end, pointed two in either direction from the middle, so that passing cars could see our message. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by cheapest light I ever bought I used in on my flag and pole. second night it would.n't work. I checked it and the inside was falling apart. the rivets inside were loose. and wasn't fixable. Plus it was also wet!! May 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for lighting brush The spike lights work as they should. Feels very well made. I used LED Par38 lamps to light up over 500 feet of trees and brush line around my property. There was no rain but the rubber seal seems to be very snug on the base of my lamps. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by pikee spot light These spots are perfect for landscape lighting and they are my kind of price. Thank you! May 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great and the price can't be beat! First let me start by saying that the customer service from this company is top notch. If you have have a question or issue, they are there to help. That being said, I use these to light the front of my house and flag pole in the front yard. I use a few 65wt for the house, and a 90 wt for the flag, and they are set to a timer so I don't have to run outside everytime it gets dark. The rubber seal keeps the water out very well, but don't use Philips bulbs with this spike. For some reason, they don't set right and water can leak in. I only use GE bulbs and have no problems at all. I have also not had any problems with breakage with the insides like other have mentioned. For the price, they are actually very solid spikes, and have held up for two years in the rain, snow and sun with no problems. If you want your house to stand out by adding some lightning, these spikes will definitely do what you need them to. P.s. thanks for all the help Garrett! July 23, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for I had no problems with water entering my unit and the unit appears to be made of metal, however, my metal stake completely disintegrated in less than 5 months. It does have a one year manufacturers warantee so I will bring mine back to Home Depot for a replacement. April 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by water gets past gasket, shorts out lights water gets past gasket, shorts out lights, don't buy this product April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by After further review…if you use the right bulb, Five Stars all the way! I really liked to product but with one gigantic reservation which has been overcome by using the correct type of bulb. Make sure you use an outdoor bulb which also says “suitable for wet locations” or “weatherproof”; the ones that aren’t suitable are intended for under soffit or awnings and will have problems. I used a 90W Par38 Feit LED Dimmable Weatherproof bulb and after a couple of months with plenty of rain the bulb continued to work great and there was no evidence of corrosion at the bottom of the bulb or inside the fixture. I have to add that the manufacturer made astounding efforts to understand the problem and assist in fixing it. I fully recommend the product and given the company’s conduct with me, would trust their other products as well. February 19, 2016
